The Restoration Release Their New Song "I'll Never Leave You", Off Their Upcoming LP "West"
/Columbia, SC indie folk/roots outfit The Restoration have shared “I’ll Never Leave You”, the first single from their upcoming LP “West”, due out October 25. Columbia's Free Times called the new work "excellent" and praised the album's "engrossing sounds and aching vulnerability."
The past can cut deep, and those wounds may never heal. Folk five-piece The Restoration attempt to make sense of a troubled history that still haunts the halls of their lives. Born out of front-man Daniel Machado’s ache to come to terms with his father’s upbringing, one drenched in trauma and dysfunction, the band’s new album, West, cultivates an expansive sound and classic western sensibility. Themes of abandonment, unimaginable loss and disenchantment are hammered right into the ground.
The Columbia, South Carolina-based band ⏤ featuring Machado, Adam Corbett (bass), Lauren Garner (violins), Sharon Ghanashekar (piano, organ) and Sean Thomson (electric guitar, slide, banjo) ⏤ so far have collected numerous impressive distinctions. A 2014 short film adaption of their album, Honor the Father, on which they participated in production, was named “Best Local Grit” at the Indie Grits Film Festival. They have opened for Americana staple Shovels & Rope and collaborated on records by Vermont folk singer-songwriter Alexa Woodard and Those Lavender Whales (produced by Chaz Bundick), as well as co-producing the 2018 stage musical Constance at Trustus Theatre.
The “I’ll Never Leave You” song shifts quite frantically, overflowing with the kind of potency that is raw, yet firmly fermented. Other cuts like “Prepubescent Homeless Blues,” “Should I Feel Guilty” and closer “Brother” all strike a similar tone; Machado's voice slides as a chameleon between propulsive walls of sound and puncturing intimacy. All the while, the band winds in rich colors behind and with him, further strengthening the emotional fabric.
