Indie Synth Pop Singer-Songwriter Conner Eko Shares His Debut Single/Video "SINK"

Up and coming Vallejo, California, indie synth pop singer-songwriter, Conner Eko, has released his debut single and music video for his song, “SINK”. With lush synths and warm and dreamy vocals, this track has a nostalgic feel reminiscent of 80s synth pop and puts the listener into a dreamlike and chill state while elevating and comforting with its message of being saved by a lover’s embrace.

Conner is a former high school physics teacher of Vallejo, California charter school, Mare Island Technology Academy, and current astrophysics PhD student of the University of Southern Queensland (remote). With past musical projects as a singer-songwriter (most notably as lead singer for Falling Andes), Conner has experience in writing and producing music, however, he has been away from the craft for seven years and since has mainly focused his efforts at science education and research. In March 2021, these efforts halted when an accident outside his Vallejo home gave Conner a traumatic brain injury and as result forced him to take a leave of absence from his PhD and many other activities. Additionally, Conner’s lifelong battle with depression was worsened by the effects of this injury.

The silver lining in Conner’s injury was that performing and writing music was one of the only things he could do that didn’t give him concussion symptoms. To help cope with his new life with post-concussion syndrome and increased depression that came with it, Conner began to again work on his songwriting and music and started to craft new songs, which aided in relieving his symptoms and helped with his battle with depression. Inspired by his return to music and motivated by a desire to make his current health issues an opportunity rather than setback, Conner recorded and self-produced his debut single, “SINK” from his home in Vallejo.

Conner’s debut, “SINK”, was then mixed and mastered by Los Angeles engineer, Mario Borgatta, whose credits include Foster the People, Death Cab for Cutie, Muse, Weezer, and Major Lazer. Working with indie digital music distributor, Distrokid, Conner’s “SINK” has been delivered for release on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and other popular music services.

The official music video for SINK was many months in production as Conner could only work on it in small time segments at a time because of his concussion recovery. The music video's "psychedelic" nature was influenced and inspired by his concussion states and aims to tell the story and vision of the song from the place of Conner's mind as it experienced pain and healing. It includes footage of him swimming and crawling out of water in Vallejo, California's Carquinez Straight and Glen Cove Waterfront Park. It was created entirely by Conner using his iPhone 12 Pro and various stock footage both purchased and available in public domain for free creative license by Rotor and Pexels.

In September 2021, Conner began working with producer, Isaac Sharp, and is set to release the follow up single to “SINK”, entitled “Christmas Morning Goodbye” on December 3rd. Releases after “Christmas Morning Goodbye”, which are set to release beginning in early 2022 will blend indie synth pop and retro indie singer-songwriter and lyrically tell of his own personal story, his battles with health and depression, and include philosophical themes and metaphors relating to humanity and our place on Earth and in the cosmos.
