Melbourne rapper Sophiya continues her ascent this week, reasserting her claim as one of the most exciting break out names in hip hop. Kicking things off in style in March with ‘Rosie’, and doubling down with ‘Chief O’ Kief’ in July, she’s now back with another high energy heater with new single ‘Lingo’ and a whole lot of good news for her rapidly growing fanbase.

Over a booming trap beat, Sophiya mixes her fierce lyrical prowess with her unstoppable rhymes, switching up her flow from spitfire to auto-tuned singing. Produced by Sydney’s PAX and mixed and mastered by DOPAM!NE, Sophiya asserts herself as the new queen of Melbourne’s hip hop underground and beyond. With bars like “I’m the fucking queen, Melbourne crown me up already I’m the hottest in the scene,” it’s the braggadocious Sophiya we’ve come to know and love, but with a refined and matured edge that showcases how far she’s come.

Sophiya said of the new single, “Lingo is about feeling misunderstood. I want to push sonic boundaries as an independent artist and ascend beyond the underdog title.”

Alongside ‘Lingo’ comes the news of Sophiya’s debut EP ready for release October 9th. Aptly titled “Overdue”, this EP marks the first chapter of Sophiya’s journey so far. Coming a long way from her first foray into music with ‘White Ivory’, “Overdue” has been a long time coming. Serving not only as a snapshot of all she’s achieved so far as well as an indicator of where she is still headed, “Overdue” marks the evolution of Sophiya from bedroom rapper to star on the rise.

Listen to “Lingo” now, stream it on your preferred music service, connect with Sophiya on her social media and be on the lookout for the “Overdue” EP on October 9th.
