“YouGaveMeLove” is the second release from Brazilian producer Shimizu via Berlin label Lekker Collective, this time featuring the unmistakable vocal stylings of long-time collaborator Aka Kelzz.
Thematically revolving around a relationship that is freshly over, where you reminisce on the loving moments you no longer get with them.
“You gave me love babe, just like you do it” is repeated like a mantra - as if to illustrate the rumination, circulation of thoughts in the grieving process. Aka Kelzz soulful voice adds to the 80’s house flavour created by the vintage synths.
Created in 2020 in the midst of the pandemic, isolation and wanderlust was paired with the interest for new sonic inspirations. Taking shape with inspiration from Lo-fi House artists such as DJ Boring, Harrison BPD, DJ Seinfield, but also the soft synths of Blood Orange and Fred again.. and “YouGaveMeLove” was born.
“Originally with different vocals, and a stripped down arrangement, the song ended up being shelved for almost 4 years, before a new vocal take by Aka Kelzz ignited the inspiration to finish and release the track.” - Shimizu
