Congratulations on the completion and release of your debut album "What They Not". What are you most proud of with this project?

I'm just very proud that it all came together. It was my dream to have my music in stores. I was just making music, not realizing that the possibility of completing an album was so close to happening. My Dad/Manager told me it was time, and we trusted that it would come together.

Tell us about the video shoot for "What They Not"; what did you enjoy most about the experience of creating a visual for your title track?

Wow! Creating this in my mind was so easy and so much fun. I had always envisioned doing a video with my basketball teammates and friends. I'd been telling my Dad this for a year or two. We just had to pick a good song to make it happen. The minute he heard "What They Not" he said this is it. I immediately put the vision together in my mind. Everyone in white and blue jeans, me in colorful attire, symbolized me being different and haters giving me looks.

Towards the end of the video, everyone is in colorful attire, and we've all come together doing our thing, but they've accepted my style, and we all groove together. It only took one phone session with the director/videographer, and he got my vision right away. I can't believe how nice it turned out, and how quickly it came together.

Of all the great songs on the album, tell us why you selected "What They Not" to create a video for?

"What They Not" pretty much describes who I am. Being an artist, sometimes I think and move differently than my friends and people I'm around. When most people have to be around lots of people having fun, sometimes I actually enjoy alone time.

Usually, I'm thinking about a crazy beat I heard, and how can I make my lyrics work with that beat. I don't always fit in. I don't like petty things, or talking about people, so I try to avoid those situations. I'm definitely different, and "What They Not" is kind of the anthem for, and message to people to embrace being different. Be "What They Not," and have people conform to you.

Is it ever overwhelming trying to juggle your academics, music and sports all at the same time as a high school student?

(laughing) Yes, very. But what else would I be doing. Wasting time being unproductive, not giving myself the best opportunities. The crazy thing is, writing songs and making music is so much fun, it's my stress reliever. I don't look at it as work. Basketball is work, but it's fun. It's my time to hang with my girls and compete. That competition sometimes influence my music. School is school, I don't necessarily love it, but it's very necessary. Just got to have it, and I've been pretty good at it for the most part. (smiling)

You started writing your own music when you were 9 years old. What are some things that inspire your creativity as a 17 year old?

Yes, I actually remember some of the songs from back then. My creativity comes for many things. Some of my experiences, some experiences of others, but mostly what I see out here. I like making music that motivate people. We all will face adversity in life, and people will always doubt you. But you have to believe in yourself, and keep pushing through. My music is intended to help people keep pushing through. But I also like making people dance and bob their heads to my songs. So I love the challenge of making my lyrics flow to a beat that makes people move. It's high energy and fun, but there is a message in all of my songs. I love today's Hip Hop, Cardi B, Migos, Lil Baby, and so many others. But I also take pride in being different with my music as well.
