Congratulations on the completion and release of your new EP "Club Shane". Tell us about the EP in terms of featured artists, producers, and how long it took to complete.
First off, thank you; I appreciate the love and the fact you enjoy the project.
Back in 2016 I had a conversation with K.E on the Track about working on one song. I was already a fan of his work, so when he sent me a few beats I immediately started writing and recording. When I sent the song back he really liked it, so we decided to do a full project.
Collaborating with other artists is nothing new to me; I just knew I had to find the right artist to place on the right song. Chei Afrique was an easy choice to feature on the song "Club Shane" because of the energy she brings to any song.
I never worked with DD Brooks before but there was something about his voice that I knew would fit on the song "Party Up", so I reached out. The video was fun to make too. It's funny because I started the project in 2016 but I stopped working on it to release other types of songs.
In 2018 I revisited the project and finally finished it. Even the idea for the album art work I had in the back of my mind for a long time. I grew up watching Japanese anime so that was the vibe I was feeling when I was working on this EP.
Why should every person reading this interview stream and purchase the "Club Shane" EP right now?
Why not....It's something different and refreshing. Not too many artists take risks nowadays and if they do, they aren't usually pushed to the forefront. Win, lose or draw, creatively I'm always going to do things my way.
When you were working on the EP, did you have an overarching theme or concept that you wanted to capture on each of the songs?
At first, no I didn't but as I completed one song and another and another, I started seeing a reoccurring theme between the songs. This was the first time I worked with only one producer on a single project, so everything felt like it flowed together nicely in sequence.
The theme ending up being about a guy that goes out to the city and has a rollercoaster night filled with excitement, debauchery and soul searching. He eventually meets a woman on the song "Journey Home" and has a deep conversation with her while sitting in a car. He then realizes his life isn't only about just having fun and partying. He sees that he's looking for something more meaningful with substance as he embarks on his journey back home. Home can be viewed as an actually house or as a metaphor for finding yourself as a person. Then on the song "Sunshine" he's waking up in the morning hungover.
Can we expect any music videos to be created for the songs on the EP?
I hope so, I'm already working on other projects right now so we'll see. So far we put out a video for "Party Up”, which was spontaneous and really fun to make. But If I really had it my way, I'd shoot a whole damn movie detailing the full story.
With the EP out of the way, what are some of your goals musically for the remainder of 2020?
2020 is all about expansion and pushing forward for me. I just want more of everything. More shows, more music, more videos, films, friends, fans, love and going on tour hopefully.
I've grown and learned a lot the past year and I just want this next year and going forward to really reflect that. Above everything, I'm really just grateful and excited for what is coming next.
