Video Premiere: "Play Me" by Houston Based Duo Unified Playas

Houston’s emerging hip hop duo Unified Playas shares their single “Play Me.” The hip hop love ballad is dripping with introspective lyrics about bouncing back from a dark, broken relationship. Feelings of being played resonate through the single, as Premium J. and Freek rap over a
perfectly Houston beat, filled with melodic bells and a big, hollow bassline. It’s a mesmerizing joint, definitely for fans of Travis Scott or Big K.R.I.T.

Unified Playas is made up of Eric “Freek” Jones and Jarin “Premium J.” Brown. The two were introduced in 2009 by one of Premium J.’s family members and they both happened to be living in the same building, on the same floor. Their friendship was instant and they quickly found themselves creating music together. In 2010, the duo debuted as Unified Playas with their mixtape Bootlegging. They then released For Playas Only in 2013 and began building their presence in the Houston and Austin hip hop scenes.

Since their inception, Freek and Premium J. have faced a world of hardships, from losing jobs and long-term relationships to surviving the devastating Hurricane Harvey. Even through relocation and displacement, they found a way to create and release their most recent album Playas University. Unified Playas perfectly represent the Southern “playa” lifestyle by accepting life’s challenges and finessing the hardships with ease and determination.

“Play Me” is the first single from Unified Playas in 2018 and will soon be followed by the music video and new music throughout the year. It’s an exciting moment for the Houston duo, so keep an eye out for future releases.
