LA Singer-Songwriter/Producer Valentina Cy Drops Her New Single/Video "Wind"

Valentina Cy, the Los Angeles-bred singer-songwriter-producer whose soulful pop sensibility won the hearts of tastemakers when it surfaced on her Unmanageable debut EP and breakout track “Powerful” last year releases new song and music video “Wind” following her major label single + video debut with “Bad.” The fashion infused music video, shot by Booboo Stewart, was filmed using the city of London as Valentina’s backdrop. “Wind,” written and produced by Valentina, is a stripped-down track showcasing Valentina’s raw vocals over a simple guitar melody with a chorus that bursts into a colorful harmony. ‘Wind” is the follow up to “Bad,” Valentina’s debut release with Island. “Bad” is a folksy pop track written by Valentina and [Mike Posner collaborator] blackbear, was produced by blackbear and Aaron Harmon.
An in-depth profile of Valentina with Vogue lauded her in the company of Fiona Apple, “while on Instagram she channels ’90s dream girls like PJ Harvey and Liz Phair as she performs acoustic songs in python print pants and silk bomber jackets.” The story underscored her close-knit working relationship with her sister. “Choosing the outfits for every Instagram, every music video, and doing the styling with [help] from [Marcella] who directs. We’re a duo in that sense and she’s definitely a boss lady.” 22-year old Valentina has also developed her professional chops in studio production, a talent that she honed as one of the first aspiring artists in Grammy®-nominated fellow Island artist Mike Posner’s Amor Fati Music Academy program in Telluride, CO, launched in 2018. The immersive program provided Valentina with a solid grounding in songwriting, production, and computer software.
But, “[Posner] taught me how to produce,” she told i.-D, “that’s when I really found my sound and I was able to stand my ground in rooms and conversations with people.” The day after returning home from Amor Fati in 2018, she recorded her first self-produced track, “Break My Heart,” and released it on Soundcloud — the result was total artistic liberation. Her 6-song EP arrived in May 2019, entirely written, recorded, and produced in her Los Angeles bedroom.
