Jamie-Lee Dimes Shares the Music Video to Her New Single “Release Me”
/Australian multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Jamie-Lee Dimes has released her latest single “Release Me”, a cathartic, indie folk-rock track that wrestles with complex feelings of trying to fit in and self-suppression in response to discrimination. Watch the video below which pays tribute to Australia’s natural beauty in the wake of the recent bush fires.
This March, Jamie-Lee will be performing at SXSW as part of their official artist showcase and on the main stage of the Aussie BBQ showcase before playing two intimate shows in New York.
Making music spurred by a need to ignite conversations, ideas, and change in response to the current political climate, Jamie-Lee seeks to provide a voice for those in society who might not have one in a landscape where the stakes are higher than ever. “I wrote ‘Release Me’ when I was living in New York and there was a lot of talk about politics and immigration,” says Jamie-Lee on the track. “It got me going deep into my own lineage, experiences, personal blocks, and obstacles in life, which led me to find the commonalities and connection with the current state of society. The lyrics come from a very honest place that is cathartic to sing.”
An eclectic artist with a global perspective fueled by wanderlust and writing sessions all over the world, Jamie-Lee infuses her unique blend of nostalgic 60s rock and dreamy, melancholic folk with activism to draw inspiration from revolutionary artists such as Patti Smith, Cat Power, Kim Gordon, PJ Harvey, Grace Slick, and more. Creating moody ethereal soundscapes, such as those featured on her atmospheric and cinematic 2016 EP Liminality, Jamie-Lee recently wrapped an international tour in support of her previously released singles “Waste of Time,” a reminder to walk forward on the path of uncertainty, and “Hide in My Head.” Both singles, alongside Liminality, reflect her experiences living and studying dance in New York City, eventually merging Australian studies in music, classical ballet, drama, and contemporary choreography into her songwriting and music.
