Indie Pop Star Dora Jar Buzzes in Her Self-Directed Music Video For “Bumblebee”

Fresh off opening select U.S dates on Billie Eilish’s Happier Than Ever tour, rising indie pop star Dora Jar returns and releases new single “Bumblebee”, her first since signing to Island Records. Showcasing her effortless, innate talent with transcendental lyrics over an upbeat buzz-worthy hook, the resulting track is a buoyant listen about making light of something that has a bit more sting to it.

Speaking on the new single, Dora recalls: “Bumblebee the song is an attempt to escape the painful reality of human experience and trade it with the perspective of a bumblebee, a creature who can see a higher frequency of light, a creature who has wings and can fly off the cold hard ground, a creature that lives in service of nature. My problems seem silly when I remember the existence of these intelligent creatures who could never be bothered by the trivial things that bother me.”

Arriving alongside the single today is the official music video, directed by Dora herself and featuring local dance students Olive and Ophelia. The girls took a liking to Dora’s music and had been dancing to it in their class, when the teacher invited Dora to come and play a song live while they performed. This eventually sparked the idea to feature them in a music video resulting in a whimsical and playful visual teasing yet another layer of Dora Jar’s artistry.

Dora also announces her first North America headlining tour this fall. The tour launches November 3 in Atlanta and closes November 30 in Los Angeles, hitting twelve cities. Tickets are on sale now.

Dora Jar is a free spirit with an old soul. The 24-year-old's formative sound spans influences of bedroom pop, grunge, folk and are held together by Dora’s sometimes-eccentric visual eye, which is equal parts existential as it is in the spirit of Jim Henson. Beneath her elastic sound and eye-catching style, Dora Jar is an artist of deep substance. Born in New York but raised in LA, she found particular inspiration after a period in London, where she started uploading little snippets of herself playing music to Instagram. Soon, she connected with producers like Solomonophonic, Felix Joseph, Ralph Castelli, Vron and John DeBold - with whom Dora crafted her hugely accomplished debut EP, Digital Meadow. Early co-signs followed from the likes of Moses Sumney and Charli XCX, as well as Grimes and Billie Eilish for breakout tracks like “Polly” and “Multiply”.

Comfortably In Pain, Dora’s most recent EP, dropped earlier this year to high praise from the likes of Billboard, Pitchfork, Pigeons & Planes, FLOOD Magazine, and more. Last year, Dora shared a stripped down live collection of songs filmed in Hope, Alaska (watch here). In recognition of Indiginous Peoples Day, 100% of proceeds from the sale of the audio on Bandcamp went to Inuit Circumpolar Council-Alaska, an organization that exists to be the unified voice and collective spirit of Alaskan Inuit.

One who consistently delivers well-written guitar pop standout tracks like “Bumblebee”, Dora Jar has well earned her wings and is poised to take flight for the rest of the year and beyond - stay tuned for more music coming very soon.
