Brisbane based indie pop artist Ayla returns to the spotlight with the surreal new video for her latest single ‘Go Slow’. Featuring Ayla’s remarkable song writing talent and epic production by Peking Duk’s Reuben Styles, the video, directed by Alex Greaves, provides equally eerie and suspenseful visuals.

Complementing the songs themes, the video juxtaposes shots of Ayla following numerous pathways in search of identity and growth with archival footage of another time.

Ayla says “The song is about hearing bad news and figuring out how to work through it, but it’s also an expression of needing to escape something – whatever that may be.

We shot a lot of it in a big old abandoned office building, which had crazy rooms full of archive folders. It was the perfect backdrop for the themes of escaping the everyday routine, which I’m sure a lot of people can relate to right now.”

Commenting on working with Ayla, the Director Alex Greaves says, “When I first heard 'Go Slow', it struck me as a huge shift in direction for Ayla, and I loved that. I knew I wanted to play on these themes of personal growth, and how we can sometimes feel trapped in these pigeonholes we create for ourselves”.

Alex further adding, “The song is very cinematic, so we presented the story as more of a symbolic narrative, as opposed to a traditional performance clip. It was exciting to work with an artist that was so willing to experiment and collaborate on this more obscure treatment of the film”.

The concept is a metaphor for growth. It’s a reflection on how our lives can so easily fall into repetition and why would should challenge ourselves to see beyond that. We live in an age that’s all about personal expression, but it’s impossible to know who we could become if we don’t go looking.”
