Gud Cyrus’s “Sweeter Than I Thought” presents stunning visuals similar to that of a noir-style Sci-fi thriller, using great monochromatic, dynamic shots of Cyrus atop of an industrial Toronto bridge amongst other locations.

The video is inspired by movies such as Blade Runner, The Matrix, and Inception, to bring together a dark and futuristic aesthetic that is pleasing to the eye as Cyrus gives a dramatic performance. The last act of the video is perhaps the most visually pleasing- there is great use telescopic and wide angle shots that help to elevate the performance and adds a dream-like quality to the song, making all the lines and facial expressions pop right off the screen.

This is the first music video by Gud Cyrus and it was directed by Victor Oly. This isn’t the first time Cyrus has collaborated with Oly, however. The two have worked together previously on the music videos for “West End” and “Like That” singles by Mississauga-native Isaiah Gibbons.
