Soul Singer Lilan Kane Pays Homage to Roy Ayers With Her Reflective New Single "TKMO"
/Lilan Kane (pronounced LEE - lawn) tells stories of love, loss, and self-discovery. Her music is influenced by the Jazz and Soul legends in her record collection, infused with R&B, Funk, and Pop undertones. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Lilan studied with Grammy award winning vocal arranger Donna McElroy and drummer/arranger Kenwood Dennard. Her full length album Love, Myself, Wonder EP, and her Shadows EP, are all available on digital streaming platforms now.
Lilan's career is fairly storied for a "newcomer", as she's joined the legendary Pete Escovedo Latin Jazz Orchestra for a performance and has opened for Hall & Oates, Lenny Williams, Freddie Hughes, The Doobie Brothers, Sharon Jones, among others.
This past year has been devastating for many performing musicians. With the loss of work and motivation to create at the height of the pandemic, Lilan copes with solitude and change on her reflective yet hopeful new single "TKMO (Time Keeps Moving On)".
Just released on all digital streaming platforms, the song is Lilan's first solo release since 2016, and her first-ever self-produced recording. With help from Chase Jackson on vibraphones (Joshua Redman), Marcus Philips on bass (Jennifer Hudson, Toni Tony Tone, Ledisi) , and Mike Blankenship on keys and synth (Lauryn Hill, Sy Smith), "TKMO" pays homage to one of Lilan's favorite artists Roy Ayers.
