Songwriter/Producer Frances Baker Drops Her Latest Single "Crazy Now"
/Exciting newcomer Frances Baker swaps stories for raw emotion on her second-ever single “Crazy Now.” The Nashville songwriter-producer is somewhat of an outlier for new artists going into 2022, carving out her own space within the bedroom scene with a sound that feels equal parts unique as it is accessible. Its drumline might have you dancing, and its piano might relax you, but all are unified by the overwhelming ‘feels’ it provides to its listeners.
Speaking about the song, Frances explains “Crazy Now is a song that rather than telling a story dives into an emotion. This piece was written around the drum and piano part- and tries to play with the space the song is being “performed” in. The applause midway takes apart the linear structure of the song- mirroring the come and go nature of certain feelings.”
It was only a few months ago Frances begun releasing music when she released “Bringing Me Down” whilst touring with British sensation, Arlo Parks, across the UK. Arlo called Frances “My favourite vegan legend with golden taste.” The two became connected after Arlo heard demos of Frances’ music in other writing sessions. Bringing Me Down’s release was a shimmering slice of minimal, emotive pop that filters spacious, ‘80s-nodding production through a contemporary lens. It picked-up support from the likes of Dan Cairns at The Sunday Times who championed the song in his column. She’s also had editorial support from BBC Radio 1 & The Line Of Best Fit to name but a few.
“Crazy Now” & ‘Bringing Me Down’ also precedes Frances Baker’s forthcoming self-titled debut EP.
A collection of five ambitious, vocally-dextrous tracks that veer between the more stripped-back opening of her first single, to the darker pulse of ‘This Hard’, Baker’s first ties these ideas together with a constant sense of intimacy that invites the listener into her world.
“This EP was so fun to make. I learned so much and had the loveliest team working with me. All the musicians (Courtney, Kyle, Josh, and Ciaran) were so kind and encouraging; they all lived where we recorded, in the downstairs, by the kitchen,” she says of its creation. “This is the first project I have released under my name. I have never been so involved in the recording/ arranging process before, and have not gotten to make something that reflected my interests, inspirations and passions so loudly until now. I really love these songs, and am so excited to share them.”
