Los Angeles Alternative Pop/RnB Songstress May Devun Shares Her New Single "Say the Words"
/May Devun’s soul-stirring voice holds listeners captive with an emotional dynamism publicly described as “sensual, intense, and potent" (Contact Music), and her distinctive songwriting traits fit it skintight. She binds evocative lyrics with thematic pop and RnB styles suspended over waves of industrial elements that stem from her roots as an acclaimed rock guitarist, altogether forging an experience that is said to beg the repeat-button.
Defined by major press outlets including Huffington Post, Music Crowns and Vents Magazine as “epic… honest… hypnotic… and necessary,” the SoCal-native has established herself as the quintessential songstress with “the look, the feel, the presence and the vibe.” (Sexee Mag)
In summer of 2019, May Devun teamed up with producer and mixer Mark Needham (Imagine Dragons, The Killers, P!nk) and assistant mix and tracking engineer Tyler Spratt, to re-mix a previously acclaimed track, “We Walk Alone." Proceeding with her new song, "Say the Words," the team expanded to feature composer Patrick Warren (Adele, Lana Del Ray, Taylor Swift, Sara Bareilles) on strings, and Matt Chamberlain (Pearl Jam, Fiona Apple, Chris Cornell) on acoustic drums.
In May’s own words about the new song, she says, “Say the Words is an introspective journey. It's about acknowledging your truths - who you are, and where you're going. You're not a stepping stone, so free yourself, and don't let others define you or your purpose”.
