Emerging UK Indie-Pop Artist Kai Undrell Drops His Latest Single "Can of Worms"
/Kai Undrell is a uniquely indefinable artist. As a musician and filmmaker, the Chesterfieldian is a true Renaissance man that refuses to be boxed into any genre or style.
Born into a musical family, he was introduced to the greats from an early age and still holds era-defining artists in particular reverence.
“Although my Dad was the musician, Mum was usually the one who'd turn the speakers up for ABBA, Blondie, The Beatles, occasionally Pink Floyd - it is no surprise that these became key inspirations whilst growing up - Bowie is king, by the way.”
His new single ‘Can of Worms’ reflects his broad palette of influences, combining indie dream-pop melodies with a grungier vocal performance.
“At the end of the day, I'm subconsciously inspired by everything every day, and if only I knew the recipe to 'getting inspired', I'd be richer than Bezos and Musk combined!”
What is reflected across both ‘Can of Worms’ and previous single ‘Stargazing’ is a true willingness to experiment, an impressive attribute given how these are Undrell’s first two releases.
While not renowned for its mainstream artistic prominence, Undrell says that his hometown of Chesterfield has a current of artist fervour that has directly inspired his creativity.
“It’s a working class place with an underbelly that is full to the brim with a lot of 'artsy'-types; musicians, writers, painters, pottery makers and filmmakers - so being surrounded by inspiring people has definitely contributed to my keen attitude, put it that way.”
