DOPEST Song of the Week: "Mirror, Mirror" by Goldë
/Our new DOPEST Song of the Week, "Mirror, Mirror," is the debut single from Los Angeles based singer-songwriter Goldë’s most recent project, and is a powerful, biting, harmony-driven statement that comes at a much needed time. The lyrics speak for themselves, and the melody is one Goldë hopes will be stuck in the ears of fans, and nemeses alike. "And it's same old, same old/blaming the beauty for being bold," she sings in the pre-chorus; it's an undeniable challenge to the patriarchal status-quo. It’s catchy, thoughtful, and brazenly unapologetic. More than an expression of the anger and frustration so many of us feel however, "Mirror, Mirror" is both a balm for challenging times, and a loving but fierce call to action.
In Goldë’s own words about the “Mirror, Mirror” song, she says,
I wrote, produced, and performed this song for the womxn in my life to blast through their stereos after a day of one too many catcalls (one is too many), nights spent trying to dodge the creep at the bar who won't take no for an answer, for when they need a reminder that they are not alone in their anger, trauma, and resilience, and for all the moments in between.
