Athens Duo The Velvoids Share New Single "Absolutely Nothing"

Vice Lesley formed The Velvoids in Athens, Greece in early 2003. The band gained recognition in the local underground scene before taking a hiatus in 2005. After meeting in 2007, Lesley reformed The Velvoids with Dorah X on drums.

In 2014, The Velvoids released their first full-length LP "Polynesia Baby". The band hit their stride as a two-piece, experimenting with their sound, melodies and recording techniques. The duo use the guitar and drums as an unconventional rhythmic unit, making room for more surprising bass lines. The LP’s first pressing sold out quickly, it was re-pressed in 2015 and its songs were featured on various documentary films.

"Absolutely Nothing" is the lead single off The Velvoids’ forthcoming "What You Know / Absolutely Nothing 7” and the first of several releases scheduled for 2018 by Athens label TBMR Records. After marrying in 2016, the couple entered the studio while pregnant with their daughter. The band crafted their songs on the spot in squatted sessions, the studio becoming their home away from home. “You can kind of feel the room in these recordings,” Lesley says. The result is a mellower, more intimate sound than The Velvoids’ past releases.
