16-Year-Old Singer-Songwriter LiLi Joy Releases Her Debut Single "Sink"

Southern California-based 16-year-old singer and songwriter LiLi Joy, a member of Team Blake on NBC's The Voice this past season, has released her debut single, "Sink." The alluring, original song pairs a stark and stripped vocal performance with a thudding bass line and loose distorted guitar riff that underscores the mental tension of feeling trapped in a depressive state. The chorus sings, "It's hard to think while we all sink. We can't breathe with all this grief. It's hard to dream while I clean up the pieces." "Sink" will appear on a 3-song independent EP, due out later this summer.

"'Sink' is about feeling trapped in your own head," the young songstress shares. "You feel like there's no way out, but you know you don't belong there. It encompasses the feeling of trying to constantly pick yourself up out of the hole you've dug."

Following LiLi Joy’s stint on The Voice, she immediately dove into crafting what would become the EP, hitting the studio with producer and co-writer John Velasquez [Zella Day, Max and the Moon]. Together, they distilled her songcraft into a singular style equally informed by those classic jazz influences as well as forward-facing flourishes and palpable vulnerability. The forthcoming EP (release date TBA) simply sets the stage for much more music to come as LiLi Joy casts an unbreakable spell of her own through being unabashedly honest in each of her songs.
