Singer-Songwriter and Vocal Looper Jordana Talsky Releases Her New EP "Zahava"
Canadian musician Jordana Talsky has grown into herself. On her immersive new EP "Zahava", she undertakes all the musical roles using only her voice and body. "Zahava" is a fascinating all vocal looping release rooted in deep human themes everyone can relate to.
Jordana Talsky is a singer-songwriter and vocal looper who fuses multi-genre influences into her own sound. She accompanies herself by voice with a Roland Boss RC505 loop station. Her ethos is to incorporate digital means into live performance in an organic way, and with the loop machine, she creates a choir on the spot with no pre-recorded parts. Jordana weaves unique interpretations of covers with original material. Her vocal loop song, "RUN", was a judge's pick for finalist in 2018 CBC Searchlight Contest (Canada). Other accolades include finalist placements in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition, Sarah Vaughan International Vocal Competition, Julian Award for Emerging Canadian Artists and Toronto Independent Music Awards. She has toured across Canada, Europe, and in 2019 was featured as an emerging artist at Summerfest, the world's largest music festival in Milwaukee as part of her first U.S. tour. Jordana has enjoyed widespread worldwide airplay of her earlier releases "Neither of Either" and "Standard Deviation".
On her immersive new EP "Zahava", she undertakes all the musical roles using only her voice and body. "Zahava" is a fascinating all vocal looping release rooted in deep human themes everyone can relate to. Jordana emotes the sounds behind her awareness that our fragmented identities are always in conflict, but can be 'harmonized as we grow to be at home in ourselves.'
Speaking about her new EP, Jordana says:
This is an all vocal looping record. All of the sounds were made by my voice or body.
In becoming a loop artist and learning to do a new thing with myself, I have come up against my insecurities and criticisms, and have found that in many ways, this creation journey has mirrored the challenge I experience to be at home with myself. I believe most of us have different parts to our identities that are in conflict, but which can be harmonized as we grow into ourselves. I am a person of several voices, and now a choir of one. "Zahava", my middle name, means 'golden' in Hebrew, and reminds me that the gold in all of us - our beauty, wisdom and power - will be best harnessed when we learn to feel at home. I hope something in this music may inspire you to find home in your self.

Stream "Techniculture", the New Album by San Francisco Alt Rock Trio Drowning Effect
Rising from the deep is a sound that cuts through the age of digital noise in Drowning Effect's second album, “Techniculture”. The outfit abandons a more stream of consciousness-style for a very structured, succinct story that begins and ends with what feels like a crash of lightning.
At a time when we are wading through seas of information, Spadaro (Morning Spy, Foxtail Somersault, and Tracing Figures), Baker (Tracing Figures) and Loftin (Morning Spy, Imperial Highway, Astral and solo projects) have come together to create a beacon of sound that reminds us of our humanity, our emotions, and our connection to one another. Named after the widespread impact of content overload, the San Francisco-based group Drowning Effect pulses with the angsty influences of 70s psych bands and 90s alt. rockers: think Blue Cheer and The Stooges meet Jane's Addiction and Filter.

Zack has just released his debut solo album "Badlands" via his Kommune Records label imprint. Having played for multiple signed bands and toured extensively, this is the sound of an artist turning within and manifesting the bold, dangerous sounds he hears in his head.
Speaking about his new release, Zack says:
"I am excited to share these songs with the world. The title of the album is "Badlands." The tunes contain verses and reverberations meant to transport the listener into a parallel universe that looks and sounds like current day California, only without the sunshine and palm trees arranged in perfect variations like the cover of a million postcards and magazines. It is a collage of barefoot sand, highway speed, LSD sunshine and ominous dusk as I see it. I want the listener to experience the sunstroke, see the beauty and feel the dred of this place where time either speeds ahead or stands dangerously still."

Stream "Falling in Love With Being Alive", the Brand New Album by Glasgow, UK Indie Rock Duo Hippy
Glasgow, Scotland-based Indie Rock duo Hippy have just dropped their new full-length album "Falling in Love with Being Alive", out on major platforms. The new album covers a wide gamut of heartfelt emotion and formidable human experience.
Indie rock duo Hippy formed in September 2019. Paul and Hugh met via a mutual acquaintance in Glasgow and hit it off musically and personally. A studio was duly booked by October '19 with the boys recording and releasing their first single 'Aries Girl'. Subsequent songs and releases Feelgood, Junkyard Babies and Volunteer were released thereafter in early to mid '20.
Paul is an established singer songwriter within the Glasgow community and beyond and has played many gigs building up a solid following of his own. Hugh is an experienced player of many years with a background in touring, live, studio and writing within the blues, rock and indie genres.
An album 'Behind Every Song Is A Story' was released to critical acclaim in October 2020. The band also received national radio airplay via Billy Sloan at his BBC Radio Scotland show with Billy regularly playing the band on his Saturday night slot. The band have also received local airplay throughout the UK on various stations and podcasts.
Hippy have just dropped their new full-length album "Falling in Love with Being Alive", out on major platforms. The new album covers a wide gamut of heartfelt emotion and formidable human experience.
Speaking about the new release, Hippy says, ‘Falling In Love With Being Alive' is an album of so many different layers. It covers hope, fear and both the greatness and absurdity of life, living life and ultimately death. It tackles the pain of anxiety and also longs for comfort.
Paying respect to deaths of different generations whilst remaining loyal to the writers' musical foundations - it has been made with artistic freedom, honesty and integrity.
This album and the previous one 'Behind Every Song Is A Story' (released October '20) is the culmination of two musicians, their influences and talents meeting by chance in Glasgow in 2019. Prior to that they had no prior knowledge of one another. What has been built upon not even in the space of 2 years is a testament to the adage of never giving up.
The inspiration for many songs on the new album were inspired by love, hate, regret, anger, mourning, sadness, happiness, the blues, melancholy. Every song on this album can trace its roots somewhere back to those in some way. The music is honest and heartfelt and never trying to be something it isn't. And played with fire and passion and totally from the heart too.

UK Folk/Country Singer Serious Sam Barrett Releases His New Album "The Seeds Of Love"
Yorkshire based hard touring, folk and country singer @serioussam1980 has releases his new album entitled “The Seeds Of Love”; listen to this great album now!
Serious Sam Barrett is a hard touring, folk and country singer from Yorkshire. Playing honest, heartfelt self penned and traditional songs on 12 string guitar and banjo. He releases music through Ya Dig! Records, A Not For Profit label run with the help of dreamers, romantics and all round good guys and gals. He has just unveiled his new full-length album entitled "The Seeds Of Love".
About "The Seeds Of Love":
“A year or so ago my wife came home with a book published by the English Folk Music and Dance Society called "The Seeds of Love". I was immediately taken with how beautiful the book was and a large part of this record is comprised of songs from the book. In a lot of cases I was new to the songs and I simply read the verses from the page and waited for a melody to come to me that I thought fitted the words. For some I already knew the song and decided to play it straight with the traditional melody. For some time I've wanted to make a record with a very traditional feel, a "proper folk record" and this book really helped that along. One way or another all the songs on this record are songs of love, be it tragic, misguided, unrequited or true.”
On Serious Sam Barrett's connection to the local Yorkshire club scene:
“I've had some of the most incredible experiences listening to people sing in folk clubs and I was lucky enough to have been brought up on the magical world that is the Yorkshire folk club scene. I hope in some way this record bring to life the wonder I have felt listening to people sing traditional songs in a raw, warts and all style.”

Audius Announces $5 Million Strategic Investment From Katy Perry, The Chainsmokers, Nas, Jason Derulo, Pusha T and More
In a move that leaves no question as to the blockchain winner in the music space, Audius, the blockchain-enabled music platform with more than 6 million monthly users, announced a new $5 million round of strategic funding today from several of the biggest names in the music industry.
In a move that leaves no question as to the blockchain winner in the music space, Audius, the blockchain-enabled music platform with more than 6 million monthly users, announced a new $5 million round of strategic funding today from several of the biggest names in the music industry.
The capital injection partners Audius with some of the biggest names in music on and off stage. Artists including The Chainsmokers, Katy Perry, Nas, Steve Aoki, Jason Derulo, and many more join industry heavyweights like Maverick Founder Guy Oseary’s Sound Ventures, John Josephson of SESAC, and Martin Bandier, former CEO of Sony Music, to anoint Audius as the favored music platform for artists and as the music industry’s blockchain winner.
Some of the biggest artists in the world see the need for alternatives to the current business model. The Chainsmokers, for example, are excited to revisit the roots of their initial success, specifically the ability to share new content with fans more directly:
“We got our start sharing music directly with fans and so we are really aligned with the way Audius uses the blockchain to enhance the artist-fan relationship. We plan to upload the stuff we play live, which we wouldn’t typically share on traditional music platforms. It’s a purer alternative to the more polished album rollouts that we will continue to deliver. As an artist it’s empowering to share different creative choices and to test stuff out in a lower-stakes environment. Additionally, for us the role of developing a community around our music has always allowed us to grow and motivated us to take risks. Audius continues to empower the artists and their community to seek freedom in all aspects of their art as the music business hopefully shifts more in favor of the artists fueling the economy.”
Music has often been an early adopter of disruptive technology, and it seems blockchain will be no different. Mainstream adoption of Audius is happening in front of us, as over six million users are listening and engaging on a monthly basis. The platform, which recently announced a partnership with TikTok, is now the largest decentralized consumer product on earth and the fastest-growing streaming platform outright.
Grammy-winning, platinum-selling hip-hop legend Nas puts it bluntly: “I’ve known that blockchain will change the world since I invested in Coinbase five years ago and I believe it might be the most important technology to ever hit the music industry. Everyone who uploads to Audius can be an owner, you can't say that about any other platform.”
Launched in late 2019, the Audius community has grown to over six million users monthly in just under two years. Artists such as Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park, Russ, Diplo, Skrillex, MadeinTyo, Deadmau5, and over one hundred thousand other artists have all uploaded music to the site, which serves as a boundless creative music community rather than a competitor to traditional online music platforms. While the network has catered favorably to independent artists in the past, this news reflects Audius' first step toward integrating with the existing industry in a cooperative and exciting way.
This latest investment was originated by Blockchange Ventures, an early stage blockchain venture fund. It has made over eighty investments in the space and manages over $1 billion in assets.
AUDIUS STRATEGIC INVESTORS INCLUDE:
Katy Perry
Nas
The Chainsmokers
Jason Derulo
Pusha T

Trentemøller Announces His New Album "Memoria" Out Early 2022 and Shares the First Single and Video, “In The Gloaming”
Danish composer, musician, and producer @trentemoeller announces his new studio album “Memoria”, set for release in early 2022 on his own label In My Room, alongside the first single and video, “In The Gloaming.”
Danish composer, musician, and producer Trentemøller announces his new studio album “Memoria”, set for release in early 2022 on his own label In My Room, alongside the first single and video, “In The Gloaming.” Dreampop and shoegaze influences are in the DNA of Trentemøller’s output. In the case of this release, those elements are suspended in arpeggiated synth effervescence, and backed by a modern take on a classic beat. Bold, glassy guitar stabs appear like a chorus of angels, shepherding us through the song. It’s an epic piece of renaissance pop that heralds Trentemøller's first full-length album in three years.
As the first single from the upcoming LP, “In The Gloaming” implies the arc of the album might have actually begun late in the day, giving the sensation of waking in the evening. Twilight is a time of reflection and transition, elements that are present in the song — both in the music and Trentemøller’s lyrics. Longtime collaborator Lisbet Fritze delivers them flawlessly and profoundly, while carrying on a conversation with the bass line throughout. “This was the first time for me writing the lyrics and the vocal melody myself and Lisbet’s haunting vocals bring it all to life so beautifully,” Trentemøller says. "In The Gloaming" is a song about a difficult, ambiguous relationship. The feeling of being in love with a person who unconsciously drags you down, and how you try to find a way out of these unhealthy patterns.”
Anders Trentemøller’s sixth studio album seems to exist at the confluence of inspiration, coincidence, and maybe even a little bit of the supernatural. A recent, unanticipated drop of four songs, in the form of two singles (“No One Quite Like You” and “Golden Sun”), might leave one surprised to find that a full album’s worth of material was also waiting in the wings. As with most Trentemøller releases, it’s a body of songs that are thematically linked by many melodic threads. Fully assembled, it presents itself as a new form of electronic space pop, complete with elements of longing and solemnity.
Trentemøller’s 2019 album “Obverse” was an exercise in what could be done if the prospect of performing the songs onstage wasn’t a factor. It opened up some doors, and signaled a new chapter. “Memoria”, even considering its resplendence, almost feels like it demands to be presented live as well.
Watch “In The Gloaming” right now, stream it on your preferred music service, and connect with Trentemøller on his website and social media. Also, be on the lookout for Trentemøller’s “Memoria”, out in early 2022.
Stream "Hauntology", the Brand New Concept Album by Italian Dark Ambient Artist Abiura

Italian Dark Ambient artist Abiura has released his expansive new concept album "Hauntology", via Moment of Collapse Records. The 31 minute long album was constructed as a single track, split into 6 sections for this release.
The project is born from the interest for the exploration of sounds as an opportunity for spiritual introspection and contemplation.
The main influences are projects and artists like Saåad, Arve Henriksen, Tim Hecker, Burial, Byla, Ben Frost, Hoedh, Barn Owl, Uboa, Ulver, William Basinski. About the theme that "Hauntology" deals with, the project has been influenced by the philosophical work of Mark Fisher, Jacques Lacan and Slavoj Žižek.
From the Artist:
I would describe this album as my own personal attempt to face Modernity and at least try to escape it through art, by representing the Real in musical terms.
"Hauntology '' is a concept album constructed as a 31 minutes long track, split in 6 different sections unified by one common leitmotif that inspired the whole work: the theme of late capitalism and its pervasive effects on the human being. The different sections of the album are metaphorically the stages of a journey through the "ghosts" of the 21st century, the lost futures that are tormenting us and which are preventing us to imagine different realities, by locking us in a cultural impasse.
The idea of this journey started from a thought that I personally find terrifying and inspiring at the same time: we tend to interpret "ideology" as something external that's being imposed on us, but what if ideology has become our natural state? What if our most profound and inner desires are already born as a coherent piece in the structure of late-capitalism? Can we step outside this paradigm?
I tried to represent the haunting "uneasiness" of this dilemma through this album.
I hope that at the end of the journey the listener will be left with the feeling that the future is slowly fading away. And life, emotions, sounds, history... ultimately everything is disappearing with it. But also with the awareness that we still have art, and with it we can start to reimagine all sorts of alternative realities. - Daniele Vergine

Vancouver-based post-punk/experimental rock group Celebrity Warship Culture have just released their new album "Recreational Everything". Taking inspirational cues from noise-positive artists like Sonic Youth, Joy Division, The National, Nirvana and Viagra Boys, Celebrity Warship Culture's sound 'ranges from soothing to provocative and everything in between.' Consistent with the underground sub-genres this band touches on, expect themes with dark wit and metaphorical social commentary.
The group states that "Our album 'Recreational Everything' represents an optimistic, youthful mindset being gradually crushed into an escapist, cynical, nihilistic one over the course of nine tracks. "
" 'Recreational Everything' is a biting statement that you can find unhealthy escapism in just about anything"

‘I Will Find My Way To You’ follows his recent release ‘Inner Light’, a collaboration with electronic duo Bob Moses. Both tracks will feature on Elderbrook’s upcoming Innerlight EP, due out October 8th. The four-track EP will also include ‘Dominos’ - his collaboration with electronic duo Louis The Child and ‘Broken Mirror’, produced by Danish DJ/producer Kölsch.
“The EP is all about how important it is to trust your instincts and believe that you do have the right ideas,” Elderbrook explains. “That it’s important to follow your own inner light. It represents the journey of self-discovery that I have been on since becoming a father and learning how to navigate that and trust in myself.
He continues: “The last few years I've toured the US many times and met and played shows with some amazing artists. Whilst stuck in the UK during lockdown, I wanted to see if I could make some records with some of the artists I love from over there, and all the collaborations on this EP came about by working via a combination of zoom and phone calls and emails.”

6 Ways Custom Cloth Wristbands Can Fire Up Music Shows
Music festivals can go on for a few days, and cloth wristbands are some of the simplest solutions for artist promotions. Additionally, cloth wristbands have been evolving with new features that made events even more worth the price of admission. Check out some ways custom cloth wristbands can fire up music shows.
Wristbands are staples at music festivals, and they’re getting more popular, especially when organizers can use them to manage attendees. Music festivals can go on for a few days, and cloth wristbands are some of the simplest solutions for artist promotions. Additionally, cloth wristbands have been evolving with new features that made events even more worth the price of admission.
Here are some ways custom cloth wristbands can fire up music shows:
1. Versatile And Comes With Options
Organizing a music event isn’t easy. Apart from the musical act, organizers need to mind the venue arrangements, as well as the comfort and safety of both attendees and staff. Fortunately, aside from serving as IDs, custom cloth wristbands are water-resistant, stretch-resistant, and hypoallergenic, which is good news for those who are allergic to rubber wristbands.
Some companies will offer variants of cloth wristbands such as ones that come with RFID and QR codes for faster identification.
2. Organized Staff And Guest Management
Staff members should be at a particular place and time; there will be people who are needed backstage, while some will ensure that the flow of people is as smooth as possible. The staff will also need to identify those who have day passes and weekend passes with perks.
To help with identification and segregation, organizers can use color-coded custom cloth wristbands that come with a level of access. This is important since some music festivals and conferences use wristbands as an option for attendees who can choose to see only a fraction of the show.
Custom cloth wristbands are printable with texts, graphics, and barcodes. The staff will have an easier time guiding the guests at their designated spots. Thus, with a custom wristband, there’s no need to use erasable stamp marks on people’s hands and bulky ID cards on lanyards.
3. Versatile And Durable
Custom cloth wristbands offer security to the wearer because they have locks that make them easy to take off and put on. This means that it’s also reusable.
Cloth wristbands also come in different types, like full-color cloth wristbands and woven wristbands. Full-color options are sublimated with high-quality color printing, while the woven alternative uses a woven thread for the designs. Custom wristbands act as merchandise from the event, which you can take home and keep.
Some creators have even gone beyond the usual fabric and are using sustainable bamboo cloth for custom wristbands. They can take on dye sublimation colors and still be good for the environment. This means even if attendees left them behind the venue, they’re still easily disposable.
4. Serves As Accessories After The Event
Printable custom cloth wristbands double as merchandise or keepsake after the event. Bands and artists at music shows can sell these wristbands as they can be specially designed for their fans.
These wristbands are comfortable and are fashion-forward because they can be printed with logos or images of their favorite musicians or singers. The event can also be a memorable time, and you have the wristband to wear and show off to your friends.
5. Prevents Fraud
These variants of wristbands can replace paper tickets, which are susceptible to fraud. The chips inside the wristbands use a technology that’s not easy for anyone to reproduce or tamper with to sell and fool other people. Event organizers can boost revenue by using cloth wristbands with RFID technology that some cloth wristband creators are offering. Attendees who lose their tickets only need to inform the ticketing section, show the wristband, and then get new tickets and a matching RFID wristband. The old wristband with the lost tickets will be quickly deactivated.
This helps the organizers keep track of the ticket sales, and at the same time, people who paid to see the show can still have a good time.
6. Saves Time And Resources
Paper tickets have always been the admission item for any show or event as proof that people paid to attend. Organizers who have been printing three days' worth of tickets will be dealing with people who keep losing them. Not to mention, the use of paper for tickets is just wasteful.
With custom cloth wristbands, especially the ones with RFID chips, people don’t have to keep checking if they still have their tickets. All they need to do is to wear the wristband to show to the staff to get inside the venue
In Conclusion
Custom cloth wristbands make it easier for attendees because it improves their experience. They don’t have to worry about losing tickets and they can still keep the wristband as a souvenir. At the same time, the organizers can easily manage the flow of attendees and provide a safer and secure event for attendees to enjoy.
Interview: King Cole Discusses His Latest Single "Your Story Is Mine", Featuring Xavier Keyz
Big thanks to musician and songwriter @kingcolehq who connected with DCWS for an exclusive interview to discuss his new single “Your Story Is Mine”, featuring @keyzofficial, and much more.
“I originally wrote this song for my wife. I always write from the heart and I hold nothing back. As a songwriter I have to come up with something that’s universal to everyone.”
How did you get started as a songwriter? Who were some artists and/or songwriters that influenced you early on?
I started writing songs when I was 18 or 19 years old and my influences are anything Motown, all the great funk and soul of The Black Counterculture Movement in the late 60s and 70s, as well as the British invasion, specifically the Beatles.
So the songwriters that influenced me would obviously be Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, Holland Dozier Holland, Ashford and Simpson, Lennon and McCartney, Jagger and Richards, Jimmy Web, Paul Simon, Billy Joel, Walter Becker and Donald Fagan, and so many more.
Congratulations on the release of your new single "Your Story Is Mine", featuring Xavier Keyz; what inspired you to write the song and how did you decide that Xavier was the right artist to bring your lyrics to life? Also, who produced the song?
I originally wrote this song for my wife. I always write from the heart and I hold nothing back. As a songwriter I have to come up with something that’s universal to everyone.
The first time I became aware of Xavier Keyz was I believe in January of this year at the Springboard Festival. It was during Covid and so it was the first one that they did by Zoom. I was streaming it to my television and when Xavier came on it felt like he jumped out of the screen into my living room.
My wife and I were mesmerized by his performance and presence. I knew right away that he was the one for the song. I went to YouTube and listened to his music and found out that he’s also a very good songwriter. I flew Xavier down to Houston and he spent three days in the studio with Barry as I watched the session on Zoom from Miami. Once again I knew that we had made the right decision because Xavier‘s work ethic is second to none. He didn’t want to stop until he was perfect. He delivered big time. He was able to capture exactly what we wanted. He’s a singer who can make someone else’s song his own.
Veteran producer Barry Coffing produced the song.
Can we expect a music video for "Your Story Is Mine" to follow next? If not, do you have another song release on the way?
Yes you can most definitely expect an official music video. In the meantime we have a lyric video that is doing quite well with over 12,000 views in about 2 weeks since it’s release.
What can you tell us about the compilation album that "Your Story Is Mine" is featured on? Do you have a release date confirmed yet?
“Your Story Is Mine” will be part of an album do in 2022 (no release date yet) called “Troll the Troll.” This project was created along with master painter and visual artist Barry Gross (collected by Elton John, the Forbes Foundation, Coca-Cola, etc.)
Barry is providing a unique oil painting as a cover for each single and of course the final album.
With "Your Story Is Mine" now released, what are some of your goals musically for the rest of the year?
For the next many months our team along with Xavier‘s manager Durell Peart we will be concentrating on this single and promoting Xavier in a big way. When I feature an artist I go all in.
My brand, believe it or not, is not about me. It’s about helping young independent creatives break out. We’ll also be in the studio for the entire remainder of the year.

Interview: Melbourne Based Artist Acoustic Foxx Discusses His New Single "The Fire Is Alive"
DCWS connected with Melbourne based singer-songwriter Acoustic Foxx for an exclusive interview to discuss his new single “The Fire Is Alive”, and much more.
“So many times and moments in life that could have easily burnt me out and had me thrown in the towel. Despite all the self-loathing and disappointment I’ve thrown at myself over the years, I kept going and it was that fire burning inside of me that kept me alive.”
If you had to describe your music to a stranger in three words, which ones would you select?
Raw, Dark, Thoughtful.
Congratulations on the release of your new single "The Fire is Alive"; tell us what inspired you from a songwriting perspective.
Thank you! The song-writing process usually begins with the guitar, a chord structure or riff and ‘The Fire is Alive’ is no different. I often mess around in different tunings on the guitar, I like not knowing standard chord shapes and just fumbling around trying to come up with chords and parts that sound cool. I tuned down my old Maton acoustic guitar to open C6 tuning and I wrote ‘The Fire is Alive’.
I played in hard rock/grunge bands for years and lately I’ve really been missing an aspect of that so I wanted to incorporate more of my electric guitar influence in this song. I recently brought myself a new sunburst Fender Tele and I fell in love and ended up recording heaps of extra guitar parts.
Lyrically I approached the song by recognizing I still had that fire burning inside of me to create music and succeed much like I had when I was younger. That seems to burn out over the years for a lot of people, so I’m grateful I still feel it.
So many times and moments in life that could have easily burnt me out and had me thrown in the towel. Despite all the self-loathing and disappointment I’ve thrown at myself over the years, I kept going and it was that fire burning inside of me that kept me alive. The Fire IS Alive, indeed.
I think that is more important than ever to feel connected with that during these trying times. The Fire is real, learn how to feel it, harness it and use it for whatever you are doing.
How did you connect with the song's producer, Joshua Whitehead, and what was you and his creative process musically?
The first time I worked with Joshua Whitehead I was in a band as lead guitarist called ‘Old Etiquettes’ and we were recording our debut album. The bands singer and chief songwriter James Harrison had worked with Joshua on many different projects for years. I really enjoyed working with him so I booked in to record my second album “Blustery Winter” in 2018 and I’ve recorded everything with Joshua since then.
With my latest single ‘The Fire is Alive’ it’s actually the first time I’ve had drums on any of my songs since my debut EP in 2012. A good friend of mine Luciano Alvaro picked up the sticks and couldn’t wait to get into the studio along with Hugh Heller on bass. Joshua had us record live in the big room at Crosstown Sound-studio and that was awesome. He wanted to capture that raw energy of a band playing the song and we played it over and over.
I actually recorded a ton of additional guitar tracks at home but I went a little overboard because I was having too much fun but we ended up culling what we didn’t need.
With "The Fire is Alive" now released, can we expect a music video to follow; if not, what are some of your goals for the rest of 2021?
Unfortunately here in Melbourne, we are in our 6th lockdown and it’s pretty nasty. The ideas I had for a music video are just not possible so I decided not to do one at all.
I’ve got another single half-finished that Joshua recorded and Hugh and Luciano played on so I’ll finish that and release it before the end of the year, as well as keeping on writing new material. It’s important I keep being creative.
I also run a music podcast called ‘Foxx on the Wire’ that’s been a huge blessing during all these lockdowns as I’ve been able to still connect with other musicians and talk about all things music.
How has the shutdown in Australia over the past year plus impacted you as a songwriter? Also, what do you miss most about performing live for audiences?
The lockdowns haven’t really impacted my creativity as such, but it has impacted the cycle of what being a musician is all about. Write songs – record – go out and play live and promote. Repeat cycle.
Lyrically there’s not a lot to be inspired about which is why I have a heap of music written but not a lot of lyrics. A few instrumental tracks perhaps?
I really miss playing live because it helps me connect with people and with myself. Having gigs coming up helps me keep my skills sharp and myself in good health so I’m fit enough to play gigs and test out any new songs. I didn’t really get into the whole live streaming thing but it’s cool that so many artists did.
