Calling all emerging artists, music lovers, and investors: LIVAMP is here

LIVAMP is a global artist services platform working with great artists and curators to bring additional exposure and tools to emerging musicians...

Founded by Andrew Kotliar, LIVAMP is an online platform facilitating fair and sustainable investing in developing talent. LIVAMP works with over 15,000 artists annually through its network of global curation partners to connect amazing artists with investors and opportunities.

  • An artist has a project in mind to push his/her career forward (e.g. record EP, shoot a music video, go on tour etc.). He/she sets the terms and the scope of the project on the LIVAMP platform;
  • Funders invest to receive a minority percent of the copyright for a song(s) for a defined period of time;
  • Money is directed for pre-approved service providers (e.g. a verified recording studio);
  • Investors receive a percent of publishing royalties from those songs until expiration

The terms are fairly negotiated between artist and investors, and all royalties paid directly to the investor when available.

One example of the hundreds of artists who have utilized the LIVAMP platform is Karim. He went from unknown singer to Internet superstardom after a 2013 stint on The X Factor turned him into a social media sensation. The American-born Guinean singer began posting weekly videos of himself singing for his followers on Instagram and YouTube. He used his online popularity to raise $1 million worth of medical supplies back to his home in West Africa. Now he’s hoping to garner that same fan support to fund his debut album, a collaboration with Nigeria’s biggest superstar, Davido. Karim is using LIVAMP in an effort to secure $215,000 to record an album, shoot a video, and more. In exchange he’s willing to give up 20% of royalties for five years to those that invest.

LIVAMP also provides a number of great services including on-demand artist virtual management, live performance content, event booking, and a service network for production and promotion. Charlotte Gomes is the CEO/Digital Strategy Architect of the Project Light Agency, a Brighton, UK based social media, digital PR, and consulting firm whose goal it is to provide a range of digital services to artists and brands around the globe. Some of the amazing artists on the Project Light Agency's roster include Nicky Davey (Soul/Rock), Savannah Dumetz (Soul) and Mi'Das (Soul/Pop). We connected with Charlotte to find out more about the Project Light Agency, how it came about, what she looks for in potential clients, and much more.

Carlton Boyd

How did the creation of the Project Light Agency come about?

After finishing my degree, I worked as a Freelance publicist and booking agent for various artists in the UK. Between 2012 and 2014, I decided to go on tour with my artists. It’s been a life changing experience and it has really shifted my perspective on life and helped me figure out what next steps to take. I launched Project Light Agency in September 2014 with the goal of providing artists with digital services such as Social Media Management, Digital PR or Consulting.

What do you look for in the artists that you work with?

We believe in music and the positive impact it has on people’s lives. That’s why we’re passionate about the message, we want to give artists the means to interact with their fans and to inspire them.
Quality matters, I’m personally a big fan of Soul/Acoustic music but we’re always trying to expand our musical horizons!

Being that you have American and UK based artists on your roster, would you say that American artists are different than UK based artists in any way?

I would say that I see more similarities than differences between American and UK based artists. I love their approach to songwriting and their ability to fuse different musical influences to create their own distinct style.

What are your goals for the agency and the artists on your roster this year?

I feel incredibly grateful to work with artists I’m extremely passionate about. They each have something different to bring to the world. Our goal is to understand their creative vision and to push them to be the best they can be. With the digital era we now live in, everything is in constant evolution and the competition is getting a little fiercer but we believe it shouldn’t affect the image and message they want to project!

What's the hardest part about being the CEO of Project Light?

To be honest if I may rephrase the question, I would say ‘What’s the greatest part about being the CEO of Project Light’. It’s such an amazing thing to run your own business and I encourage anyone who has a passion to chase it and create their own business. The freedom and creativity that comes with it is priceless.

TapTape is a new funding and marketing platform that lets fans invest in their favorite artists. We’re a highly-curated service, designed for labels and artists who may already have traction or an established following, but are looking to raise money, build awareness, and/or energize a strong fanbase.

Unlike traditional crowdfunding, TapTape lets supporters share a piece of the upside of a project--meaning artists never have to ask their fans for a handout, and can focus their time on music instead of giveaways/prizes.

We’re founded by musicians who are deeply involved in the artist community, including having organized the MIT Artist Speaker Series (featuring Killer Mike, Young Guru, etc). We’re backed by people like Lyor Cohen, and are currently working with artists signed to labels such as RCA and Kompakt.

---------

TapTape is a funding and marketing platform that lets fans invest in their favorite artists, and benefit from their support. Quality artists are provided with a risk-free source of capital and a close connection to their most loyal advocates. Trendsetter fans are rewarded for identifying, financing, and supporting talent.

Unlike traditional crowdfunding, TapTape is a curated platform, designed for labels and artists who may already have traction or an established following, but are looking to build awareness and/or energize a strong fanbase.  Rather than forcing artists to ask their fans for a handout, TapTape provides a way to let fans share in the success of a project.

How it works:

The artist, management, and/or label all work together with TapTape to agree on campaign specifics.

The messaging of the campaign is distinct from traditional crowdfunding. Rather than asking for help, the artist is giving their followers an opportunity to get involved and share their success.

Fans choose an amount to invest, with various tiers offering easily-scalable bonus rewards (e.g. early download, stems, etc.) to be fulfilled when the campaign is successful.

When the campaign hits its goal, payments are processed and the money is transferred to the appropriate stakeholders (artists, management, and/or labels).

At this point, fans get real-time data to track their artists’ success (social stats, plays, likes, etc.). Artists, management, and labels get valuable data and a direct connection to these superfans.

Over time, fans are paid back a share of profits in TapCoins, which they are incentivized to re-invest in artist campaigns or merchandise. Fans can also cash out for gift cards (e.g. Amazon)..

Neither TapTape nor the fans ever claim ownership to any of the underlying rights. Each deal is customized and can easily be adjusted to fit the artist’s existing contract. Raise amounts, percentage splits, and term limits are all negotiable.
