Tell us about how you guys came together to form Waiver Wire? Also, how did you come up with the band's name?
Waiver Wire formed at the beginning of 2018, largely via Craigslist networking (not as strange as it sounds). We've spent the last two years honing our sound, crafting and re-crafting songs, and perfecting our live show.
The name was largely a happy accident. We discussed names for months, and could not come up with anything the entire group liked. Eventually, someone suggested Waiver Wire, and we had finally found one to agree on.
Congratulations on the release of your new single and video "Life In a Jar", which will appear on your upcoming debut EP "Hold Your Applause". Why did you select "Life In a Jar" as the lead single?
We were discussing which song should be the single right up to our final day in the studio. We ended up deciding that "Life In a Jar" had the perfect hooky chorus and high energy to introduce the world to our sound, and to give them a taste of what they'll hear on the EP.
Speaking of the EP, is "Life In a Jar" indicative of what we can expect sonically and thematically from the EP?
While there is definitely an overall tonal and thematic vibe to the entire EP, we think each song stands on it's own and has it's own unique flavor. We expect that listeners will find something interesting and fresh about each track.
How would you describe the rock music scene in Worcester? Are there a lot of venues to perform at and are locals supportive of homegrown talent?
There is definitely a scene, but sadly it's been dying a slow death for many years. The city's most famous venue is the Palladium, which hosts hundreds of national rock and metal acts a year, but remains largely out of reach for the average local band. One of our shorter term goals is to play the Palladium.
Nearly all of the smaller venues for local bands have closed over the past decade or so, including one of our favorite spots which just closed its doors at the end of 2019. There is just one remaining venue, Ralph's Rock Diner, that caters to local music and provides a good atmosphere and playing environment. We play there often and hope it continues to thrive for years to come.
Why should every person reading this interview stream and buy your debut EP which drops on Feb. 7th?
This is only the beginning for Waiver Wire. We're incredibly proud of this EP and so excited for the world to hear it. If you're a pop-punk fan of any stripe, you'll want to hear it, because you're going to be hearing the name Waiver Wire more and more, so why not get in on the ground floor? Also, if you're a Four Year Strong fan, you have to check it out.
