Our latest exclusive interview is with Toronto based Hip-Hop/RnB artist Roshy, who just released his very DOPE new single “Blinded”. We had the opportunity to pick Roshy’s brain about several things, including his creative process when developing new music, his place in the music landscape of Toronto, his goals for success in 2020, and much more.

After reading our Q&A with Roshy, be sure to connect with him on Instagram, and check out more of his music on Spotify.

Describe your creative process when it comes to the development of new music.

When I’m making a track, I’m very selective with my beats but once I find something that I like, I start freestyling with it right away. I keep trying to find melodies that I like and once I get my flow and structure of the song mapped out in my head, I start writing the story and the lyrics. I love the process; nobody can take me from my zone once I’m locked in.

Major salute to you on the release of your new single "Blinded". What initially inspired you to create the track and who provided the surreal instrumental?

The track was inspired off something that happened recently. A girl that I was talking to had previously been associated within my crew… I knew that I couldn’t move forward with her, but I was very tempted to but eventually came to my senses and pushed myself out of that position.

The instrumental was produced by Balance Cooper. As soon as I heard the beat I had the chorus and melody playing through my head, so I had to hop on it.

Can we expect a video for "Blinded" to drop next? Also, will the track be featured on an upcoming EP or mixtape in the coming months?

As of right now, there are no plans for a video for the track. That said, we have a lot of stuff planned this year when it comes to projects and singles. We’ll send you the sneak peek whenever we are ready to go. ;)

Toronto has solidified its place as the new Atlanta when it comes to hip-hop and RnB music with the number of talented artists that are making major noise. Are there any mainstream Toronto artists who have inspired you as a creator?

One of my biggest inspirations and motivators out of Toronto is SAFE. His style and music are crazy. I knew about SAFE when he didn’t have much of a following and was very underrated. Now as time goes by, watching him grow to what he is now is super motivating and I would love to work with him one day.

Following up on the last question, how do you stand out from the other Toronto artists fighting for the same spotlight that you are?

What separates me from other Toronto artists is that I have different styles and flows that I can showcase. I got my own style on my tracks; I strive to be as versatile as possible.

Meanwhile, Toronto has that known autotune sound whereas I can offer a lot more than just a trap song with some autotune. My voice is distinct and some of my sounds are inspired by my culture. I have been born and raised in a musical household – both my parents are artists themselves.

What are some things musically that you want to accomplish in 2020 and what do you think needs to be done for them to become reality?

In 2020, I want to establish my brand. I want to meet other artists and people from the industry who are like me, creatively and musically.

On a streaming level, I would like to reach 3000+ monthly listeners on Spotify. To achieve all this, I think it just all comes to proper marketing and hitting the proper places/audience that would like my sound.
