Interview: TomSlick, Founder of MadeULook Entertainment, Talks About Their New Single/Video "Hustle 4 Somethin"

We connected with TomSlick, the Bay Area based founder of MadeULook Entertainment and band director of SofaKinTight, for an exclusive interview to discuss their newly released single/video “Hustle 4 Somethin”. During our conversation, we also learned more about how MadeULook Entertainment was developed, how the San Francisco/Oakland Bay Area is reflected in the music they create, what we can expect from them in 2020, and more.

Congratulations on the release of your new single and video "Hustle 4 Somethin"; tell us about the inspiration behind the creation of the song itself.

The inspiration for the song is that 3 years ago I took my son to South Central for a basketball tournament. I had been a fan of Nipsey’s music for a while and I had an opportunity to visit the Marathon store on Slauson and Central. Instantly, I can see Nipsey Hussle’s impact on the entire community. After his death, I felt that it was a major loss in the hip-hop community and a bigger loss for South Central LA. I had to do a tribute song because I knew he hustled 4 something. #RIPNipsey

What is MadeULook Entertainment and how did the company get started?

After producing track after track for local Bay Area artists for cash, I decided to make my own sound, “Soul Hop.” I formed a band to support the SoulHop Mission, “SofaKinTight.”

SofaKinTight came together naturally. The name is more than just a play on words. Sofa = we make the kind of music that brings people together to chill, dance and vibe like at a house party. Kin = we’re all kinfolk brought together by music. Tight = the pocket, music soul vibe –feel bounce. Tight.

How would you say that the San Francisco/Oakland Bay Area is reflected in the music that MadeULook Entertainment creates?

The San Francisco/Oakland Bay Area is easily recognized as a music destination and an entertainment mecca. There are few bands that are in such demand by visiting artists; none more sought after than the "Soul Hop" ensemble, SofaKinTight, presented by MadeULook Entertainment!

The Soul Sound from the Gospel Quartets of the 70’s, combined using the upbringing with Toni Tony Tone and the Hip-hop sound of DJ Quik & Ice Cube Made Me say “Self” We can make music for all ages, 1-60 years old.

The Sofa Kin Tight band in incredible; what do you enjoy most about being the band director and do you guys have a favorite song to perform live?

Being the Band director of SofaKinTight is easy, All Family (#Kin). It’s like meeting at our grandmother’s house after Easter Sunday, just playing music in the garage.

It is hard to pick just one. We play our own 3 tracks. #NextMistake by #DelaFaye. #Stretched by Merk S Villain and Frank Stickemz and our latest single, #Hustle 4 Something by Merk S Villain, Lae Yates and Calypso.

With the close of 2019 rapidly approaching, what are some things musically that we can look forward to from MadeULook Entertainment in 2020?

With 2019 rapidly coming to an end, MadeULook Entertainment is moving into the #Live Stream Concerts business. Streaming Live Concerts all over the world.

MadeULook Entertainment has teamed up with OnStage+. to bring everybody into the SoulHop era.
