We're really feeling your new track "F**kin Witya". Are the lyrics based on a personal experience?
I wouldn’t necessarily say based off a personal experience but more so how I feel. Nowadays I feel like we don’t value and appreciate our women and it’s conditioned them to settling or basically believing they’re supposed to be treated a certain way. The great 2Pac in a way more poetic way kinda addresses this conditioning in “Keep Ya Head Up” Go listen to the first verse! So me with the song, it’s like I wanna genuinely kick it wit ya but shawty may be so damn damaged idk if I can fix her she gon be who she’s been and do what she knows. Pac said if we keep this energy “We’ll have a race of babies, that’ll hate the ladies” and that’s where we at with it; fellas don’t really respect em. They’re objects and females bought in and focused on being the finest object to secure that bag.
What's next for you now that "F**kin Witya" has been released? Can we expect a project featuring the track this spring or summer?
Let’s just say June 23rd; 28 years ago my family’s life changed when I was born the youngest of three. June 23rd this year, OPV will start making its way down that runway.
What part of New Jersey are you from? And are locals supportive of the music coming from the artists there, specifically Hip-Hop?
Brick City! Newark, NJ...I would say in my hood you gotta be somebody to get real support. We sorta ride waves so once others validate you then the support comes. I’ve been to underground stuff in my hood with other local talents killing it and you literally have ppl too cool to even cheer, too cool and just stay posted. You’ll get the that’s wassup or that was dope and it’s left at that. Ppl don’t wanna see you more successful than them or pop off before them.
To bring it back to OPV, that’s the difference. I actually supported others on my team before my own and continue to just as much because they’re 🔥🔥🔥. Shit, if one make it we all make it. So look at the odds; there’s strength in numbers. No one of quality and with substance did it solo! No one!
Who are some rappers who have inspired you as a rap artist throughout the years? At the same time, how do you stand apart from them to create your own identity?
2pac, J.Cole and 50cent. I think their mindset whether it’s how they put out music, orchestrated their tracks, or business mindset is more so what influenced me more so than style.
Tell us about OPV Records and how they have been beneficial to you as an artist and music brand.
OPV is a movement, a family so everything you would expect from that. The support has been unreal; we’re still on the ground level but approaching that runway and you know after you hit the runway, you accelerate and eventually you take off!
