Tell us about your mask. Why did you decide to wear it and what does it represent?
I was born this way haha.
As someone who is not really up to date on TikTok and how it is beneficial to artists, tell me about the platform and how it has helped you gain new fans and exposure for your music?
TikTok is a fun new platform to really get creative. It’s a music-driven social media. Their algorithm is crazy. Every video has a chance to be seen by millions because if it’s good, it will get pushed by the app itself (unlike other social media). I made a song remix using an egg, and it started a trend. So others started making their version using my sound. The video has 18 million views so far, and many of these people went and checked my original music.
Congratulations on the release of your new song “Darling (The Real Thing)”; how did you connect with Sheeba and what was your creative process for it?
Sheeba is a good friend of mine! We had been wanting to work on music together for some time now. How “Darling (The Real Thing)” developed is a fun story. I was listening to BTS at the time and decided to make a K Pop track. Sheeba came to me with the new song she wrote about seasons, and I realized that her song had exactly the same chords as the K Pop track I made. My friend Rea was there too, and we all started signing Sheeba’s lyrics over the track. They fit flawlessly.
Can we expect to hear “Darling (The Real Thing)” on an upcoming EP or album in the new year? Also, is a visual coming for it?
Possibly. At the moment I only plan to release singles. We made a fun silly music video for Darling. I wanted everything that’s connected to this song to be made on my laptop. So we filmed the music video using my laptop camera. It’s a fun song and we wanted to just be our goofy selves.
What do you most look forward to doing musically in 2020?
Experimenting. I am very inspired by Young Kio and Lil Nas X, with how they mixed 2 very different genres so perfectly. Recently I read a book that talked about how we pay attention to sounds: we like sounds we never heard before, but are reminiscent of something we heard before. I am really looking forward to finding my sound.
