Congrats to you on the release of your new single “A.L.L. Love”. Who produced the track and what motivated you to write it?
Thank you! The track was produced by Jhonny Charles aka Da’Professor. His vibe is dope, I’ve worked with him a lot. This track was simply a product of my life. I met the perfect muse and I fell in love. Jhonny had sent the beat to my email one day and I instantly just sat down and wrote the track. I just write what it is I feel.
You know we have to ask you about the mask. We won’t ask you why you wear it but what’s been the craziest reactions or questions you’ve gotten from people since you started wearing it?
Ha! Man, I’ve heard it all. I think my favorite was one time at an event when this guy came up to me and told me I look like a superhero. Usually people just want to know why though, and the answer is simple: it doesn’t matter what I look like if I create dope music. That’s acceptable for men, but for some reason can’t be understood when applied to women.
Have you had the opportunity to perform live thus far? If so, what do you enjoy most about it?
Yes, I’ve definitely hit the stage before! What I enjoy most is probably the reactions. I’m a pretty soft spoken person so I think it’s a bit of a shock for people when I’m on stage and they hear me doing my thing. I get so lost in the performances though, it’s a dream. I love it.
Can we expect a visual for “A.L.L. Love” before you drop the “Numb & Void” EP?
I’m definitely working on a visual for “A.L.L. Love” that can be expected out before the “Numb & Void” date. Visuals are my favorite part of my creative process after writing so I’m excited to start dropping more of those soon!
Speaking of “Numb & Void”, what can you tell us about this upcoming release? Who are the producers you’re working with on it, and when do you plan on dropping it?
Well, “Numb & Void” is basically a full on expose of my relationship. It’s a love story with a slight twist or two. Like I mentioned previously, I write what I feel. Art is always better when it comes from a real place, and this was my real place for the past year or so. It’s a little loving, a little crazy, but it’s very real. Jhonny Charles actually produced most of this EP, except for one track that I worked with LeVale TheDrumma on. The release date is slated for September 28th. The fall is definitely the right vibe for this project.
As a female artist, who are some other female rappers who have influenced your music?
This question is always hard for me. My music is influenced by all genres and all types of artists. You have to be eclectic if you ever want to transcend boxes people will try to place you in. This project was honestly influenced by R&B more than anything else. But for shits and giggles, Eve was always my favorite female rapper. I love her style. She understood versatility and her lyrical content and flow were undeniable. Missy Elliott as well, her creativity and universality were just the dopest. (Plus she’s also a VA native so you know I gotta ride for mine. Ha!)
What are your musical goals for the remainder of 2018?
For the rest of this year I just want to continue to push forward with this EP and to really show people who I am. I always tell people, I’m just waiting for the right person to hear my sound at the right time. This is all I’ve ever wanted for myself since I was 9 years old and I’ve worked hard to get to where I’m at, so I’m not stopping. I want everybody asking “who is the chick in the mask?”
If you had to describe your music to a stranger in three words, which ones would you select?
Three words? I’d say Diverse, Unique, and Undeniable. I don’t think that needs any explanation other than music itself.
