Interview: DCWS Exclusive Q&A With Detroit Emcee EddYBandZ

EddYBandZ is a Detroit based rap artist who recently dropped his new single 'Thin Line'. EddYBandZ's music is certainly not the normal coming from Detroit. He embraces his inner self which can be clearly heard through his lyrics. Currently gearing up for a new project, he's ready to take the next step to prove he can make great music. We connected with EddYBandZ to find out what we can look forward to with his upcoming project, his thoughts on the legacy of rap music from Detroit and how they have influenced him, who he'd like to collaborate with in the future and much more.

Describe for us your creative process when it comes to the development of a new song?

I zone out to the beat while slightly intoxicated. I used to have a thing for vyvanse because it helped my writing process. But I've gotten to the point where I don't need any substances nor do I need a pen and piece of paper. My songs are developed straight from the soul, people that know me will tell you I don't speak much unless I am really into the discussion. So as you can only imagine I have so many emotions, memories, thoughts etc locked away and thats where I pull from when I'm in front of the mic.

Your new track 'Thin Line' came with a lot of raw emotion; is the song based on a real life experience with a young lady?

Funny you ask, I was in a very dark place when this song was recorded. One thing I can say is drugs, disorders, and strippers do not mix.

Have you decided on a title for your upcoming project? Will 'Thin Line' be included on it and what can we look forward to with it?

I'm still in creative process but as of right now the title is Lone Wolf. Thin Line will definitely be included on there, and you can look forward to learning a lot more about me as an artist with this upcoming project. I've developed so much lately in many good ways as well as bad. You will hear all of that on Lone Wolf.

There's incredible legacy of rap artists coming out of your hometown, Detroit; which of them have influenced you as an artist?

I'm inspired by a lot of music coming out of Detroit. None of them necessarily influenced me as an artist, I feel like me being the artist that I am came from within. Although I do have some favorite artist from Detroit like DameDot and Dex Osama (RIP).

Who are some artists that you look forward to collaborating with in the future?

To help me better answer this question I'll pretend the question is who do I look forward to getting lit with and creating some amazing music with and that would be Kid Cudi, Travis Scott, Future, Wiz Khalifa, iLoveMakonnen, The Weeknd, and Mac Miller.

If you had to describe yourself as an artist in three words, which ones would you choose?
