Y the Ghost Releases the Visual For His Brand New Track "Is That Too Deep?"
Y the Ghost (Jacoby Elliott’s solo pop moniker) has just released his first new music in over 2 years – the single and music video for “Is That Too Deep?” available everywhere digitally now. The announcement follows a recent invitation to join the global initiative “Beyond Music” based in Switzerland and co-founded by rock legend Tina Turner.
The music video for “Is That Too Deep?” has also been selected to be screened at Colorado’s Short Circuit Film Festival. Previous music videos for “Hologram” and “Is Anybody Out There?” were also selected for the festival in 2020. This year the screening will take place online and ondemand at csc.eventive.org.
Jacoby Elliott, 27, grew up in the Kansas City area and is now based in Colorado. Says Elliott, “Y the Ghost is about the lifelong quest for love and immortality through music and film. I really let my subconscious take the wheel when I'm creating, and it takes on a sort of dream logic that teaches me more about myself in the same way I hope it inspires imaginative reflection in the audience. It's a contemplation of the human experience.”
He goes on to explain the meaning of the new single and music video. “It’s about creating sacred space in a chaotic world. This song in particular is even more so about how that desire for unconditional love can become unhealthy when it's being sought in other people, because that's too much to ask of any human being. That idol will eventually fall, and then you're left scrambling again. So it's really asking the question: where and how can I find this ethereal love – and if it doesn't exist on a literal level, can I create it or tap into it on a more abstract level? Can I nurture and cultivate this metaphoric state by extending it into the material world?”
In early 2021, he received an email from Switzerland inviting him to join “Beyond Music,” a global music initiative co-founded by Tina Turner and Regula Curti which aims to “collaborate and jointly develop innovative pieces of music across cultures and genres.” As of 2020, there were around 450 musicians on the platform worldwide. Members will be partaking in a yearly album project overseen by a renowned producer (one previously being Grammy-winning Larry Klein). The best collaborations will be reproduced and included in the album release under the guidance of this producer, but all musicians will remain on the platform for grants, awards, and connection with each other throughout the year.
