Tyson Amir - Between Huey and Malcolm

Born and bred in the Bay Area is the creative, Tyson Amir. He is an author, musician, educator, community organizer, and freedom fighter. In the spirit of The Dragon, George Lester Jackson, he endeavors to utilize any and all artistic resources at his disposal to bring about the eventual liberation of his people. Tyson has been engaged in movement work since the late 1990s. His fight is born out of love for humanity, justice and peace for all. Each one of these layers are intricately woven into his praxis and practice. In the music world he's an accomplished artist, his last album, Purpose, earned two top 5 singles as well as critical acclaim from major hip hop publications. Tyson’s latest and perhaps most important milestone yet comes with the release of his debut book, Black Boy Poems, a powerful, timely, and revolutionary body of literature that seeks to educate, motivate, uplift  and inspire those fighting for freedom and liberation.

Black Boy Poems, like the author, is composed of heart, soul and struggle. This body of work is a major contribution to the movement for Black Liberation for generations to come. Tyson combines his experience surviving America as a black man with hip hop prose, and original analysis to shape what is arguably the most revolutionary statement of the 21st century. The wisdom in his lyrics, social consciousness, and story-telling abilities can be attributable to his upbringing: his father was a Black Panther and his mother, an avid reader and active participant in the Black Liberation struggle. A deep awareness and knowledge of self was instilled at an early age. It is constantly present but at times it shines through bright enough for his ancestors to see.

With each spoken word poem from Black Boy Poems Tyson will be releasing an accompanying video. “Between Huey and Malcolm,” the first video offering in this momentous new series is essential listening for all Americans regardless of color or background. Tyson seeks to remind us that true power is always in the people, and that it is upon us to manifest freedom and justice for all.
