Sugar Parks Releases the Visual For Her New Single "Strange World"

Los Angeles born and based indie rock singer-songwriter Sugar Parks creates music that has gritty, bluesy overtones and shimmers with noir pop. Sugar began her journey into songwriting by writing poetry as an outlet for inner turmoil and reflection. She moved around California’s Pacific Coast, acquired some knowledge of guitar while in San Francisco, and ended up in L.A.’s San Fernando Valley. Misfortune in love and her new guitar skills led her to start writing songs. Shortly thereafter, she met David “Mitch” Parks, a guitarist and sound engineer, at a karaoke dive bar in Los Angeles. The two artists started producing music together and got married the following year.

Sugar recently dropped her debut four track EP, “Ruminations”, which is a collection of songs whose lyrics confront difficult topics such as social rejection and toxic relationships. “Strange World”, the lead single on the project, has more of a pop rock feel than the other tracks while still embodying a dark, bluesy edge. The song is about feeling like an outcast yet deciding to be true to one’s self regardless. To accompany the release, Sugar has unveiled a noir-styled music video for the song.

Co-directed by Sugar and her husband Mitch during quarantine, the “Strange World” video uses creativity, special effects, and interesting noir-styled visuals to portray a philosophical and spiritual journey. Plato’s Allegory of the Cave was one of the influences for the story. The journey begins with the trappings of being a part of a world where you don’t fit in, but then gaining wisdom and light from God that breaks you free to be who you were created to be outside of the peer pressure and societal pressure of the world.

We are completely blown away by this enchanting clip and we suspect that you will be too, so watch “Strange World” below, stream Sugar’s “Ruminations” EP on Spotify, and connect with her on her website and social media.
