Slo-Fi Disco Duo GRIDLOCK Share the Visual For Their Debut Single "Missed Calls"
Fresh on the DCWS scene is the New Jersey based Japanese-American duo GRIDLOCK, whose music pays homage to their upbringings, blending elements from ’80s Japanese pop and American alternative. The jazz musician and Jersey club producer duo combine layers of soulful live instrumentals and steady electronic beats to create uplifting dance tracks that they call “slo-fi disco.”
The duo has just unveiled the music video for their debut single “Missed Calls”, directed by Syd Sisante, features an all-AAPI cast and crew, and was shot at a diner in Bedstuy, Brooklyn.
Speaking about the song itself, GRIDLOCK states:
“We wrote this track during our college years when we struggled with the pressures that came from the overwhelming choices in life. This led to a song that sings about the feeling of stasis, and longing we felt as a result. We started with the line “I never took a call up until I would believe it” mumbled over a bare bone keyboard loop and took it from there.”
Trust us when we tell you that the clip for “Missed Calls” is beyond DOPE, and it is the perfect visual representation of the certified banging anthem that these guys has brought forth from their creative minds. They definitely set the bar for what we will expect from them musically in the future, which is hit, after hit, and more hits.
