NYC based, neo-soul singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, Abby T, releases her new dreamy single/video “High.” Directed by Michael Tan, the visuals capture the song’s true moody essence with curated atmospheres. The track comes from a place of unrequited love with a friend, channeling the emotions of being led on, as well as being used as that person’s self-esteem boost. Not to mention retelling those late-night situations where someone only hits you up when they have a little bit of liquid-courage or heavily under the influence. The lyricism presents the notion of a person having power over you because they know you will answer. While at the same time also denouncing those tropes, the song showcases themes of independence, knowing your worth, and not having to fall victim to another late-night escapade from an ex who’s under the influence. Produced by Roc Nation signee, Anwar Sawyer, the overlining production captures the essence of being vulnerable with metallic synths while interpolating that classic R&B-soul sound.

Returning from her three-year hiatus, Abby T explains “‘High’ feels like my first real release. It’s a new era and with it, I have a whole new attitude as well. When I listen to “High” I can hear all of the amazing R&B vocalists that came before like Lauryn Hill, Brandy, and Aaliyah, but also all of the amazing artists that I aspire to work beside like Kehlani, H.E.R or Tierra Whack. Listening to it is like opening a time capsule. It captures exactly how I felt when I wrote it but still feels all too relevant. I feel a lot more secure about this release like I’m where I’m supposed to be in R&B.”
