Brooklyn Grunge Rockers Castle Black Invoke the Dark Arts in Video for "Seeing In Blue"
Female fronted punk-rock/grunge outfit Castle Black have just released a music video for their single "Seeing In Blue". Layering twisted and tinted scenes, supernatural vibes and plenty of hard-hitting rock n' roll action, the video is a perfect depiction of the Brooklyn-based trio's atmospheric vibe and powerful sonic-packed sound.
Leigh Celent, guitarist and vocalist of Castle Black, shared further on the inspiration and motivation behind the video's scenes. "Erik (director) had a vision for the video, it was one we would not have come up with ourselves, which made this video really fun for us, and hopefully for our viewers – it's kind of a glimpse into a different side of us and the music."
The play of color and filters represents a strong questioning of reality, as the video's characters play out in a bizarre scenario of delivery boy taken hostage. "Everything is skewed when the blue filter is on, what is reality, what is not..." said Celent, who thanked friend Richie Bee (of Deitre) for his role of delivery boy in the video.
Director Erik Kops, of Brooklyn's PurpleThrone Productions shared, "Castle Black intrigue me. To me, their music and vibe touches on the supernatural but still packs that rock and roll punch. I wanted the video to reflect that. Some inspiration was derived from the film The Witches (1990) starring Angelica Houston, which I saw as a kid and remember thinking witches were real, and perhaps the old lady down the street was one!" Exclusive interview cuts and behind the scene footage from the video can be found on the PurpleThrone music discovery app, accessible via iTunes here.
"Seeing In Blue" comes off the band's EP Trapped Under All You Know released this past summer. With an infusion of genres and influences, they take inspiration from 70's punk and 90's grunge - reminiscent of acts such as Sleater-Kinney, The Dead Weather, Hole, Savages, and Bikini Kill.
