Vancouver's The Roxy Resident Singer Josephine Drops Her Pop Banger "Better The High"

Fresh off the release of her satirical pop banger "LaLa," Josephine has dropped "Better The High," an intense pop-rock tune that deals with one of her lower points, mentally, during the early-isolated months of the pandemic. As she was stuck at home, numerous thoughts permeated her mind. She would find ways to cope using marijuana as a way to help slow those never-ending anxious thoughts.

"The song can come across quite aggressive, but mental health can be aggressive. Being stuck in your own mind can be a very intense experience and it can make you feel small and trapped," she says. "It's the teenage lock yourself in your bedroom and blast rock music and scream along until you feel better type of song."

Too often, pop stars are held on a pedestal as prim, proper, pure idols who don't struggle with things like mental health or use any form of drug to cope. Josephine is the antithesis of that; she's not afraid to be truly honest, and "Better The High" is her illustration of this.

Josephine, a BCCMA-nominated singer-songwriter formerly from the band Whiskey Jane is also currently the lead singer for the house band “Fully Loaded” at the famous Roxy Cabaret nightclub in Vancouver.

"Better The High," is the latest single in Josephine's upcoming debut EP, “Permanent Ink”. “Permanent Ink” was created at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic with her partner Ryan Stead, a multi-award-winning singer, songwriter, producer, and one of the most sought-after guitarists in the entertainment industry.

One thing that the pandemic did is it made people more comfortable talking about mental health and the toll it can take on you," Josephine says. "Everyone has mental highs and lows, and this past year made the topic of mental health way more open and acceptable."

Josephine’s hope is that someone will find as much solace in listening to “Better The High” as she gained from writing it. Check out “Better The High” now, stream it on your preferred music service and connect with Josephine on her social media.
