Maddy Hicks Returns With Her New Single "Pit Stop"
Maddy Hicks is back on DCWS with the release of her new single entitled “Pit Stop.” This is the second single following the release of her recent EP “Nightlife”. While “Nightlife” had themes of fear, anxiety, and heartbreak, her more recent singles “My Eyes Have Dried” and “Pit Stop” have displayed confidence and power, marking a significant transition toward a new chapter in Maddy’s music.
Sometimes we find what we’re looking for when we’re not looking at all. That’s definitely the case with “Pit Stop.” With an effortless flow of back-to-back phrase rhymes, “Pit Stop” tells the story of a one-time hookup evolving into something much more meaningful. The song is overflowing with funky bass and guitar parts, and the urge to dance along is irresistible. As the serotonin sets in, you can’t help but root for the characters in this unconventional love story as it unfolds. What started as a pit stop might just be a destination after all.
Originally from upstate New York, Maddy has been performing her self-written music for almost a decade. She moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 2018 to pursue a career as a songwriter and artist while studying at Belmont University. She writes about the twenty-something experience with a unique sense of rhythm and rhyme beneath powerful melodies.
In December of 2019, Maddy released her debut album “The Bliss You Missed”. Since then, she has transitioned into more of a pop sound. Her recent EP “Nightlife” is the first wave of music that Maddy plans to release this summer, and her more recent singles “My Eyes Have Dried” and “Pit Stop” mark the beginning of the next wave.
“I wrote ‘Pit Stop’ during a quarantine slump last year and felt excited about my music for the first time in a long time. The upbeat energy of the song brings me so much joy, and the lyrics are jam-packed with internal rhymes, which are my favorites. In the studio, we focused on giving it a Dua Lipa groove and making it something people can dance to.”
