Justus Bennetts Unveils His Brand New Track "Cool Kids"
21-year-old genre-blending musician, Justus Bennetts, has released his new single “Cool Kids”. The song is a follow up to his previous single, ‘Bad Day’. After going viral, the song shot into nearly 250 Daily and Weekly streaming charts around the Globe, including over 50 Top Ten appearances, as well as the US and Global Viral Top 50, UK Top 40 and racking up over 30 million streams.
‘Cool Kids’ flips stereotypical teenage anxiety on its head - asserting that “all the cool kids peaked in high school”. Justus says, “‘Cool Kids’, just like ‘Bad Day’, started as just another studio session. It’s not a shot at any specific group of people; but more of a relatable story of the stereotypical, social hierarchy in school that made anyone ever feel insecure or naive.”
A teaser for ‘Cool Kids’ posted to Justus’ TikTok and Instagram Reels, has already amassed over 8m views and over 11m views respectively. ‘Cool Kids’ is another instantly catchy earworm destined to be another hit for Justus.
Creating a unique sonic landscape that blends pop punk, indie, and rap, Justus makes music of the moment, for the moment; epitomising the genre-bending tastes of his peers, who also happen to be his audience.
Though music runs in Justus’ family, being a full-time artist wasn’t always in the cards. Growing up in Raleigh, North Carolina, he began by rapping with friends and working as a car salesman to pay the bills. He built a music studio in the laundry room of the house he shared with two other people and eventually found a manager who brought him to NYC to record.
One of the songs he recorded was ‘Nightstand’, which debuted on TikTok and amassed two million views as well as being highlighted on New Music playlists on Spotify. Justus’ next single ‘Real Life Sux’ debuted with even more social media buzz before hitting the satellite airwaves on Alt Nation and soaring to #8 on the US Viral Charts.
Justus continued his streak of hits with ‘Insomniac’, which he released last month and was quickly added to 13 radio stations; the number 3 most added alternative song in Mediabase last week.
Now that he has found his sound – not to mention the success he’s always dreamed of - Justus says he looks forward to performing locally in Raleigh as well as embarking on a national tour at some point in the future. He shares, “If I could pick someone to tour with, it’d be Post Malone, Dominic Fike, or Linkin Park.”
Justus will release his forthcoming debut EP in the near future. In the meantime, check out “Cool Kids” below, stream it on your preferred music service and connect with him on his social media.
