Chicago Based CHH Artist Aasha Marie Releases Her New Single "Punch"
Aasha Marie works a job where she has to punch the clock, a constant reminder of how she’s not where she wants to be, daydreaming on the job about doing music full time. She often finds any downtime at the 9-to-5 to jot down lyrics or concoct melodies. Music is a slow grind, but requires full time commitment. While both the day job and side grind requires her all, sometimes one vocation overtakes the other, causing one to suffer the consequences.
She details this struggle on “Punch” her new single due out now on all streaming outlets. Produced by LA singer/songwriter Nova Gholar (The Game, Christina Milian’s “Turned Up” Reality Show, B. Simone’s “You’re my Boooyfriend” reality show), the track features a laid-back guitar looped underneath soaring strings, fender Rhodes and rhythmic bass creating a vintage sound any listener can vibe to.
Punch the Clock/ Get off get the bag/ Get in the lab / Push pen to the pad - Lyrics from “Punch”
On the chorus the Chicago native details the daily repetitive grind of the artist laboring on the job and then using those funds to labor in the studio. “There’s this very real tension that exists between my passion for music and my day job, I’m learning how to balance the two so I can see my 9-to-5 as a blessing to provide for my music and not a burden,” Aasha Marie says. “Punch” gives listeners a glimpse into Aasha Marie’s emotions she calls on God to affirm her purpose in work and music.
Why do I hate when you leave/ me in a place where I need/ to be humbled not freed/ so I grumble not seize/ the opportunities flee / with my music I’m in tune with/ gotta move with your speed - Lyrics from “Punch”
Aasha Marie desires for “Punch” to be a work anthem for everyday people but especially for the artists waiting on their gift to make room for them. Listen to Aasha Marie’s new single below, stream it on your preferred music service and connect with her on her website and social media.
