Brisbane Rapper NERVE Unleashes His Massive Single "Big Switch"
It’s been a big year for Brisbane underground rapper, NERVE. Kicking off 2019 by performing with Triple One at Falls Festival, it was the release of previous single ‘A BOMB’ that electrified the Australian hip hop scene and catapulted NERVE out from the underground and onto the national radar, selling out an East Coast headline tour while he’s at it. Now he’s doubling down with ‘BIG SWITCH’ - a warning shot to anyone who dares to pigeon-hole him.
All about "how much my musical, social and mental environment has changed over the past year", NERVE explained that he’s gone from "contemplating taking a hiatus in music in early 2018 to playing major festivals and selling out an Australian East-Coast tour in early 2019 and I want people to know I’m here to stay."
Confident and self-assured, NERVE shakes things up again on ‘BIG SWITCH’, taking aim at all those who said he’s changed or who won’t let him be himself. In fact, NERVE hasn’t changed at all: "I was a straight A nerd in high-school and everyone knew that. When I see people from school now they all think I’ve switched up but I’m the exact same I’ve always been, I just love making music."
Working with frequent collaborator Kyle Golly once again for the accompanying visuals, NERVE described the meaning behind this latest clip as a protest of him being put into a box. "I’m not trying to be someone I’m not and I’m not trying to be what people want me to be either."
"I want to make me cool, not be cool."
With hundreds of thousands of streams amassed from his completely independent catalogue including his 2018 album, Sober, and now, a sold out headline tour under his belt, NERVE is determined to seize 2019 and make it his. Heading back on the road this June with Triple One for their sold out national tour, and plenty more music up his sleeve, he’s just getting started.
"I’m gonna keep switching shit up on them until they have no idea what to expect next," - NERVE
