Brighton-Based Electronic Pop Band Swoon Release Debut Single "Teeth"
"Teeth" is the emphatic debut single by Brighton-based electronic pop four-piece Swoon, comprised of members Alice Guala, Ferg Griffin, Chris Lelliott and Adam Macaulay.
The quartet have only been together a number of months, yet exert a confidence and energy which draws on influences from Canadian artists such as Grimes and experimental hip-hop group Death Grips, that could make them a force to be reckoned with in the near future.
The track, with lyrics detailing a menacing obsession with the shape and style of a person’s smile, mixes minimalist production with intense percussion and anxious rising synths to create a compelling composition with an airy swagger and tribal-like atmosphere. An ominous pulsating bass acts as the song’s strong backbone alongside dissonant lingering keyboard fills and miniscule moments of silence to provide a tense undertone, before culminating in an almighty rise in volume and cathartic release at its stunning climax.
