LOLAA originally released LOLAA in 2017, produced by Jon Drew (F*cked Up/Tokyo Police Club), taking inspiration from Latin American/80's pop music/icons: Daniela Romo, Gloria Estefan, Kim Carnes, Laura Branigan, Debbie Harry, as well as the discotheque era: Donna Summer, Bianca Jagger, the lightness, the elegance, the dancing. The project became a mix of all the ideas the sisters had in their heads, a cultural collide of sounds. King and Valentine are of Mexican descent and have always considered this to be an integral part of their identities as people.
Discussing the project, vocalist Lex stated: "The plan for us was to always record the songs on LOLAA in Spanish, but naturally because we live in an English speaking country, we decided to start with what made sense in terms of geography. I always said that someday, when I’m really old, my hair - long and grey, I’ll be making experimental Spanish folk records, living in some artist colony in Latin America or Barcelona. That’s the long-term plan. Our grandfather on our dad’s side – a poet, a politico, died in Cuba, and our grandmother died in Barcelona. We have this genetic creative restlessness. We intend to pursuit that, and see where it takes us. That in itself, is very gratifying to the soul".
Tour Dates:
07/12 – New York, NY @ Coney Island Baby
07/20 – Chicago, IL @ The Bar 10 Doors
08/04 – Toronto, ON @ Handlebar
