Kanye West's Nebuchadnezzar Opera Opens and We Have a Lot of Questions

From sneakers to Jesus comparisons, Kanye West has set great goals for himself. And to be fair, he’s achieved a lot of those milestones, but unfortunately, grand delusions seem to overshadow his entrepreneurial identity, mostly expressed in unpredictable Twitter rants a la Trump.

Known as the Nebuchadnezzar opera and set in the 6th century B.C.E, ‘Ye’s latest work will be based on the Book of Daniel. For the non-religious, this “recounts Nebuchadnezzar’s transition from wicked, imperious, self-declared ruler to a true believer who finds salvation in his faith.” Who will slay the Babylonian King? Kanye himself? A Kardashian? So many questions.

His press release regarding this opera (which debuted over the weekend) was full of jargon and we’re still not quite sure what it means, exactly:

“West conceived of this opera as an expression of his commitment to both his faith and ever-expanding musical palette. Nebuchadnezzar brings together elements from different worlds, including opera, fine art, modern dance, and gospel music, to create an innovative performance structure. West’s sound is the bridge between these art forms.”

Hm. Well, he’s definitely committed to something, but we’re still not sure what that is. E The production will be deflected by Vanessa Beecraft, a longtime Kanye collaborator.

In a recent interview with Beats 1, West mentions that this Nebuchadnezzar was the creator of an entire kingdom, but was also (unofficially) diagnosed with bipolar disorder. ‘Ye relates. We appreciate his attempt to dive into mental health, but we think that there are better ways to raise awareness on metal illness and make a change.

Until then - will you spend the your holidays trying to find this celebrity masterpiece/spectacle on social media? We can only pray that it will be available on live-stream.
