We connected with Union, NJ based RnB/Soul artist and producer Sonny Dumarsais for an exclusive interview to discuss his latest single “Truth of the Matter”. We also found out what Sonny learned about himself as a creator after the release of his debut EP “Transition”, as well as the one thing he would change about the music industry if he could, and much more.

Congratulations on the release of your new single "Truth of the Matter"; it's a great summer time jam. What initially inspired you to write the song and can we expect a visual to follow?

I was always inspired by summer and this song felt great for that feel! The visual should be coming very soon!

What would you say that you've learned about yourself as an artist and producer since the release of your debut EP "Transition"?

I learned patience, I did my best to sit and listen to the song. I wrote in February and learned the art of timing. I took my time with my engineer mixing and mastering this record to make it perfect.

If you had to describe your style of music to a stranger in three words, which ones would you select?

I would say it's cool, musician and genuine!

With the single now released, what are some of your goals musically for the remainder of 2019?

My goal is to release more music throughout the year, create a visual for this song “Truth Of The Matter” and work on my second EP.

If there was one thing that you could change about the music industry, especially as an RnB/Soul artist and producer, what would it be?

I would make it so that streaming services paid the artist more, 1200 streams to only equal one unit sale isn’t right at all. That’s one thing I would change ASAP.
