We connected with New York based RnB/Pop singer-songwriter Myles for an exclusive interview to discuss his newly released feel good, summer jam “Body Language”. We also picked Myles’ brain about how he got his start musically as a youth in church, which artist he would pick for a remix to “Body Language”, what he does for fun when he’s not working on music, and much more.
After reading our Q&A with Myles, be sure to connect with him on his IG and Facebook.
If you had to describe your music to a stranger in three words, which ones would you choose?
Passionate, relatable, and unorthodox
How did you get your start in music and when did you decide that you wanted to pursue a career as an artist?
Well, music has been apart of me as far as I can remember. My mom started me young in piano lessons and then I would sing in the choir at church. Before I knew it I was standing in front of a microphone, singing a solo at the age of 9. I continued singing and studying music, so it always has been apart of who I am. However, I think I became serious about it back in 2012. I left from being a biology major at my first university and went to study performing arts.
Tell us about your newly released single "Body Language". Who produced it and what inspired you to write it?
I was going to this period of time where, for some reason, all I wanted to hear was listening to “Humpin' Around” by Bobby Brown and from there I kind of fell into this hole of all the music from that new jack swing era. I found myself listening to full Bell Biv DeVoe albums. I was singing “Nite and Day” by Al B Sure!. I was even watching old performance videos on YouTube.
So I was really feeling the 80s/90s and I knew I wanted my next single to pull form that era. Then one day I started to hum a melody, which is how most of my songs start out. Then, the lyrics "Our body language is the words we are gonna use" just kept sticking so I went on with that idea.
I contacted some talented producers, Woodtunez and Josh Rollin, and we began to bring this song to life. I knew I wanted people to feel good and want to move when they heard it.
With the "Body Language" single now released, what's next for you musically? Can we expect a visual?
“Body Language” will have a visual. I will be releasing a vertical video soon. I also have some upcoming performances in the New York City area. I am currently hard at work on an upcoming project that I'm really excited about but won't say too much about yet. However, I do intend to release a full body of work in the near future.
If you could choose any artist to be featured on a remix to "Body Language", who would you select?
This is a hard one. I'd most likely ask Kelly Rowland since I love her so much. I'd probably ask Khalid as well.
When you are not working on music, what do you enjoy doing for leisure?
I love going to the beach. that's always number one on my list. I like hanging out with friends. I either go out or go to a friends house and just goof around and laugh. Then, there are those times where all I need is to binge a whole season of Stranger Things.
