Congratulations on the completion and release of your debut album, “The Codex: I Got Next”. Tell us what you're most proud of with the project.
What I am most proud of about the album is how it all came about. I’ve always been drawn to write and express myself through music, but it was private, very personal. I always knew I had it within me, but I never knew how to get it out. But somehow, I just dug in, and didn’t stop until it was finished.
I learned how to produce an album. I learned how to get the thoughts from my head to a project file. I learned how to mix and master it. I have always had a crazy work ethic to succeed. It was just putting my mind to it and grinding to get it completed.
Everything was literally learned and completed in the last 3 months of the year. Prior to that, I had never done anything like this.
If you had to summarize it in a sentence or two, what would you say is the overall message that you are conveying on the album for the listener.
The overall message is put God first in everything you do and when God speaks, WE MUST LISTEN. A lot of people praise God, but to live for the purpose to serve God, is a different walk. That’s what I have chosen to do.
Tell us about the 8 accompanying visuals that you developed for the "The Codex: I Got Next" album. Why did you develop them?
The 8 accompanying visuals are just short videos from the songs. I captured about a minute of a few songs and made a quick short promotional video.
Describe your creative process for the development of the songs overall, and the beats you produced, on the album. Also, what inspired you to write the 12 songs?
There are 11 songs on the album. The creative process is different from song to song, but I have to give all the glory to our heavenly father. Honestly, I listen to the music, vibe to the music, pray and then boom. Anotha 1. lol
Were there any songs that you recorded that didn't make the final cut for the album? If so, why didn't they make it on the album?
Yes, there are a few songs that didn’t make the final cut for this album. Some of them will be on the next album.
I intend to share everything God inspired, but I want to keep the tracks to 11 per album.
With the album now released, what are some of your goals musically for 2020?
The goal for 2020 is to keep the music coming. We should see another project coming very soon, very soon, quality music.
