Congratulations on the completion and release of your new EP "COLD HANDS"; what are you most proud of with this release?

Thank you for checking it out! I'm so proud of "COLD HANDS” because it's my first official EP. I've dropped singles before but I never thought I'd drop a project so soon.

I'm most proud of being able to put together a project like this from nothing. I'd had some of the lyrics already written from before but this was a brand new concept, brand new concept and it all came together so beautifully. I can't even source where it came from and I'm not going to ask at this point.

How would you say that the "COLD HANDS" EP differs from anything that you have released in the past?

This project is very close to me. I always write the truth and my life in my lyrics but I've never been so coherent, so poignant. It flows like a stream of consciousness of me trying to get this out of my system. I just had all this bad blood and energy filling up my mind and I just needed to flush it all out. That's how this project is different, all my other songs have been about looking back on the lessons I've learned but this EP is just me addressing my own demons.

The EP was produced exclusively by ENKS; how did you two connect and what sonically were you looking for in his instrumentals which led you to use him solely?

A good friend of mine showed me his channel, I think he's smaller and slowly growing his audience (like me) but he has such a complete vibe. Each beat had such a story and atmosphere behind it, and it aligned with how I was feeling at the time. Naturally, I reached out and immediately started getting to work.

Will you be releasing visuals for any of the EP's songs? If so, which one(s)?

I had this idea in the back of my head while I was working on the EP, and I really want to come back to it when I can have a proper budget haha. I'd love to create a short 15-20 minute horror film based around the EP. Can't say any more details but I wanted it to be more "inspired by the EP" rather than just a long music video.

From a songwriting perspective, what were some things/people/places that inspired the EP's lyrics?

Moving to random cities, coming to Canada as a kid and my travels since then. For the longest time, I avoided setting in roots whenever I moved somewhere new but it changed when I finally decided to stay in Calgary.

I tried to just live a normal life, have normal relationships, and it felt great until I started relapsing back to my old ways. The EP is me accepting that I've still got a lot to learn, but that's just how it is on this bitch of an earth.

With 2019 rapidly winding down, what are some of your goals for 2020?

I've been putting out mad work this year, haha, who knows I might still drop something before it ends. I'm happy to be ending the decade with a strong vision, I really feel like I gave everyone a good taste of what to expect after working my ass off for a year straight. I'm going into the next decade with confidence, and I'm endlessly working to just keep getting better. Blessed to have a strong team behind me already, keep your day ones close, those are the people who want this for you as much as you do. 2020 I wanna do more shows, festivals even. I'm applying for Sled Island so we'll see if that happens. Here's to the world, Carlton.
