CRAY Embraces Her Evolution on the Newly Released "seasons change and so do i" EP
Vancouver-born/LA-based artist, DJ, and gamer Cheney Ray - aka CRAY - is making her mark on the digital and physical worlds. Building her following via Twitch where she would test out mixes and DJ sets while pwning noobs on her favorite RPG's, CRAY has opted to switch her class from deck-master to dark-pop star. She leveled up and signed with Ultra Records to release her new EP, aptly titled “seasons change and so do i”. From them she enlisted producers Dan Whittemore, Naderi, Alex Mendoza, and Cameron Hale to join her musical guild to assist in bringing her vision to life. The result is a project that both showcases CRAY embracing her new sonic direction and her vulnerability in overcoming heartbreak.
When asked about the inspiration behind the EP, CRAY shared, "This EP was written over a year and half period. The first half of the EP was written when I was in a relationship and was struggling with being okay and happy and the end half I wrote when the relationship ended. It's very much like a diary and that's why the artwork is hand made and the songs have dates next to them to explain the journey of when I wrote them."
She adds, "This EP is almost a story of falling out of love with someone and back into love with yourself. It's angry, sad, hopeful and powerful. My inspiration for this is directly from my experiences and my writing, each song is personal and true to me and the writing process was emotional for me but very therapeutic as well."
