I'm fascinated by your name 'Bitter's Kiss'; where did it originate and what does it mean to you?
When I started putting my music out on SoundCloud, I wanted to use a project name and came up with Bitter's Kiss. I wanted something that reflected the message in what I was writing, which is about seeing that there is something good or sweet even in things and times that are hard. It was also the name of one of the songs on my first album. It has stuck as my music name!
Tell us about your EP "Love Won't Make You Cry"; did you write all of the songs and who handled the production?
The EP has three songs from my first album and two new songs. These are songs originally recorded at home with my dad, and then we worked with Ryan Benyo and Monte Malone in L.A. on production. I write all my songs. Lately I've been working with co-writers and different producers towards my next release. I am always writing, though.
Do you have a favorite song on the EP to perform live?
Probably Friday Nights, because the band that I play with (Fiscal Cliff) and I really like to do something different and a little harder that the way it is on the EP and it's a fun one to play and sing.
What's next for you musically for the remainder of 2016?
I just had the release of Rise Up, which is the anthem for the Life in Color Festival for 2016 and am about to shoot a music video for a project I'm working on with Greg Kozo (Make the Girl Dance) to be released out of France. I have a couple of other features, but am mostly focused on writing and recording the next album over the next couple of months. I'm very excited about where I'm heading musically! Also, watch for the video for My God (last song on the EP) to come out in the next month or so.
What are your goals for your musical career? Is there a certain venue you or audience you'd like to perform for?
My goals are to progress as a singer and performer and to continue to build my audience and find the right label partner. I love the idea of stadium and arena shows, but I think my favorite idea of performing is mid-size venues where I can connect with my audience.
Tell us about your experience at High Tech. What are you learning there that will benefit you as an artist?
High Tech is a great school for people in my position. I love musical theater and have been doing it since I could walk. A woman in my town, Chase Leyner, started the Hoboken Children's Theater when I was young and it gave me the opportunity to play roles in a number of productions. Many of us wound up at High Tech and continue to perform. I am lucky that they have been very supportive of my career.
